Re: Missing the point?

I think it's the use of the word 'adventure' that has got us all steamed up. However, 'Adventure' has been used to describe a type of motorcycle for the last 15 years and it's a far worse use of such a term given that the majority of riders of such things only go on the road. In other news I've just...

:-bd Top WRT bivvies there folks, sorry I couldn't make it! By way of compensation, I've just done a stoater! Out of the blue came a sunny forecast and hot! 20 degrees plus! Cheap way of kicking the head tube out by a further degree and allowing them to say it's compatible with longer travel bouncy forks?

Cheery as I'm off to do my May BAM, courtesy of the Cairngorms tour. Weather currently stunning, expecting the usual deterioration tomorrow but hopefully avoid any lightening strikes!

Re: Missing the point?

There is a fair bit of mapping of forest tracks up this way, and promoting them as gravel routes (eg. GravelFoyle around Aberfoyle / Queen Elizabeth forest) but no mention of the Adventure word. 'Spose it's just a word innit, as long as it delivers some nice cycling for people then that's fine. It w...

Re: Recommend me a quilt

I've a cumulus 150, which is probably a bit light for your needs, and a Thermarest vesper 20F/-6C which is probably a bit too warm - I have actually used it at -6 on a neoair and it kept me warm enough, just. Both are ace so a cumulus 250 or the vesper 32F would suit your needs? The thermarest was a...

I use a Garmin Dakota with a knock off OS mapping card. Talky toaster maps are available free to download if you don't want to go the OS route Either a Dakota or an etrex works well - Dakotas are generally cheaper SH. One wet and breezy night in Glen Clunie (just up from Braemar).... https://i.ibb.co/SK4k1Dx/P6250130.jpg I'd pitched in the most exposed spot I could find so that there would be enough breeze to keep the midges at bay. The breeze became a gale with heavy rain showers. A bit flappy but survived fine ...

Re: Lifesystems Venture Solo Bivi and others?

I've never been wholly convinced by hooped bivvies - if it's raining when you get in, the rain is coming in with you and if it gets wet, it won't breathe. If you are going ultra minimalist then a straight bivvy bag is probably not much wetter. 'Pends what your after. My DCF flat tarp / borah bivvy s...

Nah, for camp - in fact more likely when camping off the motorbike where I tend to spend more time lazing around on a campsite.

That said, I had a couple of mosquito horrors in 2022 so I might take it with me on certain bike trips also.

SS is ideal for that route as you're either going up a huge steep climb (and pushing) or going down a huge steep descent for which SS is fab. Or pushing across a tussock fest.

Re: Frame bag hydration hose solutions

I spent years with the hose wrapped and granny knotted round the GPS mount - fine with the RAM mount but not with the standard garmin.... After much fannying around I tied a bit of elastic chord round the front of the loops (bars that is) with a dangly bit - I feed the hose through this loop and rou...

Hi Rich
I've some 'funn full on' risers spare - 30mm rise by the looks and 785 wide. Usual sweep - probably 11 degree back sweep and 5 degree up sweep I'd say. Any use?
