Re: What are you reading now?

That looks an interesting read Gecko, might look out for that one. I recall, many years ago, being in the Highland Spring / Famous Grouse cafe at Blackford and seeing a really interesting book on the development of Scotland's post war hydro electric network. I didn't buy it as I was on my bike and i...

Re: What are you reading now?

2/3rds of the way through Mark Beaumonts original RTW book. Hmmm. I bought a copy from the a village hall book sale a couple of years ago, but gradually got bored by the book, somewhere around Pakistan, perhaps I should give it another go! I prefer Alastair Humphreys two books, which I've reread a ...

Re: Todays ride

Ooh err, icy roads.... Anyway out in the last of the snow today but somewhat less scenic than Paul or Jeffs rides. I did do a nice skinny ski tour up in the hills yesterday evening though, my way lit by a 3/4 moon and Jupiter. https://i.ibb.co/7ttg8ch/P1120386.jpg Snow was dampening so incredibly ha...

I've not looked for a while but Dakotas were a lot cheaper than Etrex's on ebay. I also got an oregon for my motorbike off CEX - https://uk.webuy.com/search?productLine ... ame=Oregon

Re: What are you reading now?

2/3rds of the way through Mark Beaumonts original RTW book. Hmmm. Once again it confirms it's the worst possible thing to do on a bike even if you try and take it 'easy' with only 100 miles per day average (compared to Jenny Grahams 250k and Mike Halls 200 miles!) Plus he carried an unbelievable amo...

Ah well, I've got the 2025 crash season off to a fine start. Headed down to the station on the fatty for a bit of adventure commuting, successfully negotiated various roads and cycleways and even a bit of iron hard single track, only to hit the deck on the last bit of path before various well gritte...

Re: Are new GPS units much better than older ones?

It depends on how you use a GPS - if you are mainly following a GPX route then my Edge 500 was good. It's auto guidance was hopeless though, I just followed the purple line. I sold it as I more often than not make a route up as I go along so like to scroll around the map to see where I might go next...

Cheery, here - spent a good few days with friends oop north and got a bit of fat bike snow time. Just back home, which is always nice after visiting folk and looking forward to more snowy bike riding tomorrow. Drinking beer whilst planning a route.
