Re: What you done t' your bike today
Got it out of the garage for the first time in a month and dug around the garage in prep for the WRT. It looks like we have a mouse because it’s eaten a hole in my wildcat drybag which happened to be in an open box with some energy bars that have also all been nibbled. Little bleeders, twice I've h...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
Enjoyed that Phil. Would be a bit un-nerving coming across those mannequins in the dark though, especially after a few beers. "Greetings madam. May I interest you in an evening of fun and frolics?". As I approached, the first thing I saw was a tumbledown shed which I instantly pegged as a...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
April... Still no Cairngorm trip as it was looking like winter would be having another go up there. So instead I went with another tour of the fair Kingdom of Fife. Last August I did the southern bit of the coastal path out (well about half of it) and an inland route back. This time I went with the ...

Re: West highland 550
I have 4 days in early May, so planning to 'enthusiastically tour' the Western portion from Fort William to Tarbet. I only really know the bit around Dunoon, from the Dirt Dash, and some very midgey camping on Ardnamurchan, so keen to explore. Though if the weather looks great, I'm going hill walki...

Re: Radar/Camera/Rear light
I was eyeing up the specs of the Garmin light, and reading the blurb. I get what they are trying to do but my considerable experience is that people squeeze past you too close because they are dicks, not because they haven't seen you. Being warned of this doesn't really add any value as there is typ...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Cheery enough - contemplating my April BAM, and thinking a wander round Fife is probably a better bet than heading up to the Cairngorms as it's looking a bit wintery up there this weekend - ironic given the drookit winter we've had. Hopefully a less dull BAM than last month! In the meantime, I'm hav...

Re: West highland 550
Probably do-able on a gravel bike... Is it just Corrieyairack you're uncertain about regarding tyre width? I find the hairpins hard going no matter the width of the tyres. I've never been out West into Ardnamurchan or the peninsulas, I am interested in going. But there is a lot of road (but actuall...

West highland 550
I developed this route a while back and it was 500 miles starting at Tyndrum. I've now re-jigged it to start at Balloch (good and regular train service from Glasgow) and added in a bit around Argyll to miss out the Trunk road schlep round Loch Fyne the 500 route used (hence it now being 550 miles). ...

Fatbikerphil, Counting adders on the isle of Arran. Could almost be a joke! On the off chance it isn't how many did you count /add? No really, we were  19 in total in 4 transects in Glen Rosa - bit of an adder top spot and the NTS are doing the woodland re-generation thing (mainly by excludin...

Re: Wildlife
Isn't it a bit early compared to a normal year ? I thought that. Now trying to identify a bird that's taken to visiting - about the size of a Great tit but with a big white chest and black head. Coal tit? First swallow earlier, loads of skylarks and a selection of small birds of prey. Of more inter...

Staying on the music theme, today's my last Paul McCartney day. The younger readers might not get the reference  You 65 then Bob? After yet another hectic week at work (HVS in climbing terms, only just managed the crux move this afternoon to get me to 'top' i.e home time.) Had some restrained...

If you have the space under your stem, one of these will support the bottom of the harness and will help keep it away from the head tube and front wheel -

The shallower the angle of the suspension the greater the force - in theory if your hammock was strung perfectly horizontal there'd be an infinite force acting on the wall I think you might need to check your working there Bob  But it's a fair point... Although with the right fixings and appl...

At the risk of being flippant, I was thinking along the lines of.... Gab - "Alright me old son, how's it going. Now. I want you to listen very carefully - you've to tell everyone they have to be nice to each other, got it?" Mohammed (after recovering from the considerable shock of having a...

Re: Happy 'International Beaver Day'
The wording on the website almost admits it's a stretch (reading between the lines) and it also states there is evidence for them on the mainland at the locations they list but none for here. The consultation was meant to be completed and the introduction was supposed to be 2023. This has probably ...

Smidge also keeps ticks off and made from natural ingredients. Plus will keep the midges at bay - given the mild winter, the midges are going to be out in force this year.

Re: Cranktank 3 vs cages on fork + smartwater bottles
What they said, although I take a bigger bottle or a water bladder in my frame bag, but with never more than 1l in it (I often forget to fill up so like to carry a bit more) A couple of bottles on the forks work OK but can pick up mud. A bottle on the down tube and a crud catcher is better in my vie...
