Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
:-bd If I hadn't wimped out (again) I might have bumped into you. July part 2 - A second attempt of my Perthshire bimble but failed due to a lack of motivation to get heavily rained on..... I nearly didn't start as the forecast for last night was horrible but at 8pm it still looked dry so I figured ...

Re: Great Glen way & Badger Divide
Not sure about the Housing estate issue - when I did it last year heading south it was just on the canal towpath in to Fort Bill. There are diversions round Loch Lochy and Loch Oich at the mo due to forestry and a hydro electric scheme but well signposted (Loch Oich, you are on the GGW rather than t...

Re: Carbon fork with straight steerer and 3" tyre clearance - does such a thing exist?
I did a similar thing with the Stragg, Dave. However the 500g Genesis placcy forks inspired no confidence whatsoever so I returned to the 2kg steel efforts.... Mebbes look at Carbon rims from light bicycle? spendy but actually add benefit in terms of durability as well as weight savings. Stuff like ...

Further rumination - surely (surly / shurely) if you gave people an option to avoid shelling out 30k for a total liability (aka a car) they would jump at the chance.... *sigh* Nah Reg, keep the motors oot of the Town centre full stop. That's what they Dutch do and it seems to work. Worth noting that...

Re: GCN - You’ll never see the world in the same way again
Hmm. I'm pleased to say that none of that was a surprise to me, having dealt with the issue for the last 30 years and entirely failed to solve it. The psychologists comments about how to solve the problem have all been tried... We told people that doing 30minutes of moderate exercise a day (i.e. wal...

I do the tube swap for them … You're doing it wrong. We're all doing it wrong. :-bd The tin hut on Tentsmuir beach was used by spotters as part of the firing range and then latterly a bird hide. Glad you spotted the weird manikins next to those caravans - means I didn't imagine it! (See my April BAM) The route from Freuchie is a bit rubbish - you can do it off road to Falkland...

Lots of history accessing that bridge with various debates on whether access rights apply or not. I think it's fine on the basis that you'll likely be across before anyone notices  Friends parents live in the old Parton station and they have been across a few times over the years, without gett...

Re: Aviemore to Dalgety Bay
Loads of ways Bob. The Pictish trail does it but via a somewhat lengthy diversion, albeith with some nice riding (See Seans reports  ). You can follow the route I used last September which is more direct and includes the Glen Tilt descent but does finish with a fair bit of road riding in the l...

Hi Ton, I'm considering other bike options but needs to be SS'able and will likely be later in the year so sorry an XL spesh won't work for me.
To be honest the 58 Cross check might be a bit wee for you

Fab, I enjoyed all of that. Further motivation to get my (less cool) diamond frame / truss fork Jones out and do a proper trip instead of riding to the woods and back! ![Very Happy ](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

I saw that on that bikepacking - flat bar gravel bike, otherwise known as a rigid mountainbike with a horrible riding position
Hey ho, it may well catch on.

FS - Surly Crosscheck frameset 58cm
For sale is my much used but well looked after crosscheck frameset. I bought this in 2020 as I wanted to build a fixie and this seemed the best bet for a bit of fixed gear gravel action, which it most certainly is. However, of late it's been giving my knees some gyp, largely due to flailing madly do...

Should be OK just using the 'big' ring mount. Only trouble will be limit on smallest ring size.
That said, when my mate went to 1x9 from 2x9 on his moonlander, he just removed the big ring, der and shifter! 22 - 11/36!

Note to self, come September tally, include award for 'BAM rule bender extraordinaire'
What; are we getting bored with sticking religiously to the rules or something?
To be clear, next year it's going to be strict interpretation of the rules only!

Re: Recommend me a decent stills camera
I got a TG6 after reading this thread previously - it's a bit of a lump but idiot proof (dropped it loads of times) and you can shove it in a pocket, haul it out and point and press. I keep it in idiot mode (I'm an idiot after all) but it takes very good pics. Spendy though, not sure what SH prices ...
