Re: Trail Gaiters

Never use them for biking, but when travelling on foot I wear OR ankle high gaiters or some light weight self made ones.

OR are well worth checking, they've been making fantastic gaiters for decades.

Re: Ideal Spoke Count

Alu rim; 32 spokes for most cases. For seriously heavy load expedition type cycling, 36.

Carbon rim; 28 spokes for all but expedition type cycling or when trying to be Super Bruni.
In such cases 32.

Re: Loop Bars - uncomfortable

From my very little experience on loop bars, I too would suggest trying this: Do you have them angled down towards the rear? Seen from the side they should be aiming towards the rear axle. I find that a little extreme so have about a 5deg angle. If you've not tried it yet, play around with different...

Re: Self inflating mat repair, slow leak

I've had a similar problem to what Whitestone mentions above with my Exped Synmat. Every so often it loses pressure overnight, I've checked for leaks in the mat itself and can't find any so have concluded that the problem is the plug that goes into the inflation port. If you inflate a mat in the la...

Re: Does it feel like winter everywhere?

No. We didn't have the untypical come typical climate change summer killer heat these last couple of months, yet far from winter. The light dusting we encountered out riding last week above 2900 m is fairly usual for any given month in the Alps. It just takes a cold weather front of which we usually...

I think there was. Can't remember the other event, but one claimed being a world championship in Colorado iirc.

One of the things that tees me off with BaseCamp is the working mode. If you are adding markers or way points and want to move the map you get a point which you then have to erase then switch mode move the map then go back to doing what you were doing. There are hot keys which will switch modes/fun...

I'm another fan of shorter rides but incorporating an overnight stop. This has meant that I've done backpacking, canoe/kayak camping, motorbike camping and mo...

But, its great to cover distance, I really enjoy it Indeed. I love that feeling of moving across horizons too, but then perhaps it has just kind of become a habit to ride 100 km or more in a day? It never has for me since the terrain I often chose is just too much for me to chew on, leaving me with...

Re: Squealing brake diagnosis

Good advice from Alpinum but before you get all technical just try this. Flip your bike over to prop it up on the saddle and bars. Loosen the brake caliper bolts. Spin the wheel. Apply the brakes. And with the brake applied then re-tighten the caliper bolts. In many cases, this will happily recente...
