Re: How would you carry a bike on shoulders!?
I rarely ever carry my bike and prefer to push it. Why bother taking the weight on your shoulders when it'll take Two of my bikes are probably carried more than ridden or pushed time wise. Why? Once the terrain/mountain path/whatever is becoming awkward enough to HAB thanks to large boulders, steep...

Re: Dynamo charging data
As Gian notes, the output isn’t linear across the whole speed range, more of an S-curve with the middle bit being linear, maybe between 10 and 30km/h or something like that. Depends on charger. Eg the latest Forumslader (think it's V5) has 4 stages of output which are automatically adjusted dependi...

This is correct for the dyno, but not for the charger.ripio wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 9:04 am The output is fairly linear in relation to speed.

I ride (almost) only offroad with the (almost) road bike. I know what MSA and PMB mean in an offroad riding context. You have a mountain bike. You're supposed to know too. Do you?

Re: Dynamo charging data
From my recent trip with my fatbike across Iceland in March. Average speeds across the Highlands about 5 - 7 km/h thanks to snow, ice and slush. Device - various (phone, GPS, internal buffer battery of charger) but for this example I'll take the phone Battery size - 3800 mAh Dynamo - SON 28 (150 mm)...

[...]A totally and unexpected encounter that was wonderful. Anyone else experienced a life affirming random experience on their travels? Lovely :-bd Reminds me of meeting a Polish fella hiking across Iceland. It was 2016, early autumn, one of the last nice days, warm in the sun, but a cold wind and...

Just went in the shed. Found a bag/box that needed lots of stuff throwing out (without the wife seeing as it's all 'stuff to treasure'). Obviously chucked most of the stuff out and hid it under the oizza box in the revycle bin. Glorious Shaf. Recycle bin = treasure box Topic: I've got more gu...

Re: 22g Stove - how much meths?
Water temperature seems more important, the stove lit and was flaming well, when the pot was placed it killed the flame straight away. The thermal mass of the cold water dominating the heat the stove had accumulated. A trangia style cooker would have not gone out as the pot would have been separate...

Re: 22g Stove - how much meths?
Experiment over. 20ml on a warmish day with no wind got 550ml hot but bot boiling. So i reckon 25-30ml for my set up. Seems about right. I reckon 30 mL for my self made cat food can stove. Comes with wind shield that fits the mug well. Will be enough also for cold water (close to freezing) in singl...

Re: What you done t' your bike today
On the topics note; After ~10 months of use and little care in some places, my curly bar offroad bike developed a couple of creaks. Gave it a good clean. One came from the rear hub and just needed a little grease on the inside of the hanger. The other came from the internal seatpost clamp - some gre...

Cheers Monkey
Just a mountain biker happy to not having any overlap issues when riding stuff with the long reach curly bar bike (BMC URS) on the bits where the mountain bike would've been the better choice.

Compare the bar position between those last two bikes :geek: Compare the reach between those last two bikes :geek: Longer wheel base, shorter stem, no toe overlap for one of them. Winner of the two in my books. As ugly as it may look. Thankfully there are other bikes out there with the mentioned ch...

Just back from doing the Loch Lomond and Trossachs Loop. New On One OG bars and KCNC Ergon-esque grips were great. No hand pain/numbness at all. New Fabric Radius saddle was amazing too, my arse was fresh as a baby's bottom??? all the way round. Other guys were struggling with saddle sores. Found t...

Decided to switch out the Super Gravity Hans Dampf I've been running on the front wheel, for a Super Ground Nobby Nic , as it's starting to dry out nicely around these parts. Managed to save all the sealant from the Hans Dampf and transfer it across, but couldn't get the 🤬 thing inflated; even with...

Got 2 Core Hoodies 2 years ago in size L. Tight fitting, short sleeves, short torso for 182 cm, ape like figure with broad shoulders and ~85 kg. Waiting for availability in CH of the Core+ in XL since I really like the regular Core. As Greg stated, they don't stretch. Tore a hole along a seam on one...

Last time I found an alloy post stuck in a steel frame I went by using chemistry; I made some very highly concentrated sodium hydroxide and dissolved the alloy and the problem with it. I wanted to do that, just because I've never done it and it looks fun, but I only had a tiny amount of caustic sod...

Re: Raised Reversed Stem
If the TT was longer, getting your weight back would be harder and you'd feel less secure. But if it had 6" of suspension travel up front and you were a nutter, it would be fine as you'd have just blasted down it... Yeah, it's the reach which must grow. Give the bike a steep STA for a balanced...

Re: Raised Reversed Stem
Don't misunderstand me Gian, my point wasn't that a stem such as this couldn't be a good thing but that it will most likely find its way onto bikes where it will likely have a negative rather than positive effect. Obviously for real men, riding real bikes, in real mountains it'll likely be perfect ...
