Re: The money no object thread
I'd quite like a hot air balloon. And one of those nice BMC carbon softails with a Lauf fork on it. If you have a friend who sells them and used to race them himself, you may not be wanting one. The black rubber - for complicated reasons I simply can't call it's name - in the seatstay has a very sh...

Re: Scotland - Beta on Etive and Rannock
Here's some bog porn. I rode from Pitlochy past Rannoch Station to Kings House, so the other direction. Some of the landmarks can be well spotted with aerial imagery. Navigation in bad visibility will be dead slow without a rough guiding route to follow. I plotted the route using 50 or 25 k OS maps ...

bloody lovely. i am still trying to get to having just one bike. and for the little bit of offroad i do, i reckon it would be fine. so thinking of selling my ecr and my tourer and buying one. Sounds like a plan to justify a new bike  We all know the right number of bikes is n+1. Why are the c...

Re: Scotland - Beta on Etive and Rannock
I know the central section of this has a reputation of boggyness; is it good or should i look for a better alternative to get to the Rannoch area? Nothing too bad. At least if you don't expect to be able to ride all of it. Here's some info to be found too: http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB3/v...

Re: Warned of personal liability at a cafe ???
Just 1.5 h ago, we were told that we could push our fatbikes (tyres still covered with snow) through the restaurant where we had a hot chocolate and some cake (really, really good apple cake and tasty cream), to get access to the cablecar back down to the valley (not possible to ride a bike down the...

Re: Klymit X Frame and quilt
I'm happy for summer bivying in the Alps and pretty much anywhere in the UK too with Klymit Inertia X-Lite and two different quilts, though I practically always use some sort of fabric or foil rsp. look for a good bedding of grass, needles etc. For the legs I mostly use a little bit of the tough sor...

I have two quilts in regular use, both with 7d nylon, one must have seen about 150 nights and there's absolutely no sign of use except from being a bit dirty and smelly (yet the down needed some care). My most used winterbag is also completely made of 7d fabric and see loads of use bivying without a...

I’m assuming it will be similar 7d fabric that would be used on quilts and sleeping bags. In which case - no, not sweaty. I guess a simple sleeping bag liver is one of the easier sewing projects to take on. :-bd Very, very similar. Montbell, Berghaus, Rab, all the very same with a tight Ripstop wea...

the quality wasn't great. Nothing terrible but nothing quite right. Just like Surly, though the price is quite different. If you want a packraft, get one from Packrafting.de or Alpacka. From a place that has proven experience. Just buying something for the sake of a cheap deal seems quite wrong to ...

Accept it. Admit it.

Storing... not really a good choice of word. Have you already tested it's integrity? If not, here's how to do it. https://www.msrgear.com/de/water/trailshot The video says it all. If in doubt, get a new filter cartridge. As soon as water nucleates (read builds ice cristals) it can damage the filter....

I wash my bags/quilts mostly after about 100 nights in them. No matter how careful I was, they loose loft after good use. Washing them with nikwax has always brought life back to them. I tumble dry them in my modern but regular sized tumble dryer in the lowest setting. Then hang them for at least a ...

Re: Saddle to handlebar height difference
Beware, no drop bar related content; All 'regular' bikes I have, have a roughly similar saddle-bar height difference and also overall height. For comfort I just go a tiny little bit shorter on the length, speak stem length and saddle position. The steering will be more direct, which works well with ...

Wondered about the support from sat comms too in terms of emotional support and weather advice etc as opposed to just emergency. Of course. We're all just humans.
