Re: Missing the point?
With impeccable timing, The National Trust (of which I, being of a certain age, am a member) is in the process of releasing their ' Grand Adventure Map ' - " a full-size*, double-sided and beautifully illustrated map of every National Trust and National Trust for Scotland location, brought toge...

That's a shame, often stopped by there whilst riding (the photo in that link makes the road look almost level )
Always seemed busy too.

Re: Missing the point?
... maybe we should envy the people who find it easy to experience "an adventure" because of their youth and / or inexperience. Whereas the older / more experienced among us have to undertake ever more obscure and risky endeavours to get an adventure / jeopardy fix). I think this is a val...

Re: What is ádventure?
Does a micro-adventure reduce the time on an adventure or reduce the amount of adventuring during the adventure? Or maybe just reduce the expectation of adventure? Can you have an adventure of the mind tunnelling into words or is an adventure exclusive to getting outdoors and doing something? So man...

The lost lane book series by Jack Thurston are worth buying, some good gems in his books. Agreed :-bd The Wayfarers route in Corwen/Llangollen way is worth a ride, probably not the best route out there (but I like it) but feels ‘pilgrim like’ riding over it Whilst I have taken a road bike over ther...

Re: Hammock in the garden
I'd have thought any pair of A frames with a top rail using those 3-way metal sockets would do it. Similar to the 'bike weigh' frame at WRT or pub garden swing/slide type frame.

I believe they have a bike packing area at St Pancras Station for the Eurostar. Apparently it's where you can pack your bike.

This talk about functional clothing reminded me of my wool jumpers, especially the one made of lettlopi (an Icelandic wool), which are, for specific weather, incredibly functional. Best is, my girlfriend made them :-bd Way, way back my mother crocheted a short-sleeved jumper for me which worn next ...

I practically live in short-zip long-sleeved fleece tops. Comfy as! They squidge up a bit more bulky but how many would you be carrying?

CyclingUK seem to have a lot of content on the topic and discussion: https://www.cyclinguk.org/article/cycle-touring-and-bikepacking-whats-difference if it gets more folks out on their bikes then it's all good  Of course, Cycling UK were formerly CTC, the Cyclists Touring Club, and if I remem...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
I went beyond two sentences and read the whole post. A picture paints a thousand words but your fewer words did indeed paint the picture(s) for me. Except... in my mind those pictures mostly had a Scottish mountain in the background until I realised they were in fact 'selfies'

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
Thanks for that insight Jack, very valid points :-bd In the last decade or so, the term seems to have become a bit linked to soft strap-on luggage rather than traditional racks and panniers. It's interesting that rear racks are increasingly being favoured along with soft strap-on luggage, albeit lig...

I've just had a nosey through the latest Cycle magazine (the magazine of Cycling UK) and there is an article titled Great Rides Bikepacking Beginners [subtitled: Bivvying under a tarp isn't the only bikepacking option].
