Re: This chap has turned up at our local gravel ride

I did think that just before I posed (only because of the ear ring) but the Marin hoody completely threw me. Was initially thinking one of the repack lads from back in the day (again, due to the hoody) I'm not surprised the Marin hoody threw you, it's "Made in" !!!

Crikey that were a close hobbling thing! I think she's the first Brit to finish it - the early years on the spreadsheet don't have nationality so can't be sure. Largest ever number of finishers despite “That new section is brutal. You are a bad man.” Crazy. Imagine the mental state, just 2 minutes ...

Re: Lowest useable gear

WRT 2022? I remember riding up a steep grassy slope not long after leaving the Towers, passing a couple of groups, regrouping and chatting at the gate near the top. If it was me you met, let's say I was doing well to hide the effort if you think I was casually chatting to you. It was indeed you Gia...

Re: Lowest useable gear

Like you say, everyone is different. One person's sit and spin is another person's get off and walk, depends how big your lungs and legs are. Me, I like a bit of torque at the pedals rather than a high cadence (if that makes sense?) I can remember once walking up a stupidly steep hill not far from B...

Re: What are you reading now?

Just started The Life and Rhymes of Benjamin Zephaniah, his autobiography.
Childhood years at the moment. Its interesting that he seems to relate those in a childlike way rather than as an adult recalling their childhood. So far so good :-bd

Re: Winter Event 2024: Power Seekers - Watt did you do?

Great write up Reg :-bd Glad you finally made it in to see the wheel. I passed by the bird hides earlier in the day Steve, bit too early to stop in the daylight so ended up further on in Dyfant Forest after a stop at the shop in the village below the dam. Another great WE but after a period off the ...

There are two ways to say 'live' but after the first three sentences there can only be one really; the trouble is the fourth sentence then doesn't read right :???:

Orange MTB Bikes going into administration

After the weekend at the WE have come home to the news that Orange MTB Bikes are going into administration :|
Hopefully can be saved; most of us of a certain age are likely to have had/ridden one of their MTBs and I know some of us here currently do.

Re: Would this work?

Well, I may have misunderstood! I thought you meant increase the warmth of the sleeping mat rather than increase the warmth of the bivvy  If you mean increase the heat of the bivvy then on the mat would be best with mat underneath; that way you get the full benefit of the reflective lining ref...

Re: Would this work?

What sleeping pad do you have? If it's an inflatable mattress the SOL may add a bit if the mattress is placed inside it since the reflective lining of the SOL could reflect some radiant heat. I wouldn't imagine that it would add much either on or under the mattress though. Would keep your mattress c...

Re: Happy New Year, and plans for 2024

More regular 2 night trips from my door into Wales would be good, around the Brecons and Black Mountains. Must start doing this again too, used to do it regularly but it has tailed off as I have tended to drive further to ride. Any recommendations for 300 and 400 audax routes in Wales, ideally that...

" cheaper the better " and " Exposure " - bit of an oxymoron  Strada is probably the one for largely road use and usable off-road but like most things you have to compromise. I use an older (less powerful) Strada for bikepacking along with a helmet mounted Joystick but use a...

Exclusively? No. Occasionally these days, yes  I've never tried to explain why I enjoy riding SS, you either get it or you don't. I used to get involved in the whole ss events scene; UK, European and World Championships and had some great times, even helped organise the 2011 FoD event (probabl...

A full car park with just one or two spaces l...
