Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Finished work at 2pm. So took a walk to the river (as not at home) and now having a nice pint of IPA to fortify myself for babysitting my nephew and niece later. :-bd

Re: Goldie Looking Bear

I wonder what time Ben picked it up? There were a few of us who went past there around the same time on Saturday but we we're having too much fun on the 'slide' down to the road I think to be conscious of any bears!

Re: WRT stories

PaulB2...so you were the rider who left the pub in Corris as we arrived on Saturday (I think) and then we passed you on our way along the NCN into Dolgellau (again I think) on Sunday morning. I was really confused on Sunday as to how and why you were coming towards us! Chapeau to the amount of ridin...

Re: Route 82 ...WTF !

I think the NCN was created in the 80's / 90's on a wing and a prayer mainly because the director/founder of Sustran's wanted it to exist. These days I'm not sure there is much in the way of funding attached to it within Sustrans in order to change the routes. I know a lot of the actual surfaces/pat...

Re: Route 82 ...WTF !

 Welcome to the wonderful world of the NCN. Sustrans did a review of it in 2015/2016 and I had the frankly amazing (temporary) job of being one of the people surveying it. I didn't do Wales but did various other parts of the country including parts of Scotland where I had similar experiences to...

WRT - Massive thanks.

Firstly thanks to Stu, sorry I didn't thank you at the end I was frazzled. Secondly thanks to everyone we met, you were all lovely. When I asked Judith if she would ride it again she said "I like the community, but maybe with less hills". So part way to being a boner. Highlights wer...

It's been a while since I've a) posted on here and b) actually been bikepacking but the wife and I are coming along.

Will probably start out on Stu's gravel route which will then be shortened when I realise how little I've ridden a bike in the last few years.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

'Finished' the Escapade re-build. I say finished in a very loose sense as I think the rear HY-RD caliper is leaking (they were free) and the tyres are really pushing it size wise for the mudguards but I'm sure it will be fine! https://punkrockbikeclub.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/img_20200309_...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

What's the axle on the front wheel, and how nicely does it play with the through axle dropouts? It's the allen key axle that came with the SON 28 hub I used to have. Seems to work fine. Those drop outs are just standard dropouts that are closed at the bottom though as far as I can tell so any axle ...

So having done the SP bearing hub swap thing with Ison today I fitted two (tubeless) wheels* on the Escapade re-build. Now having 'what bars?' thoughts when I was originally just going to put the ancient bell laps back on. https://punkrockbikeclub.files.wordpress.com/2020/02/img_20200213_1537...

Stronglight Zicral 48t 110BCD Campagnolo chainring (free/postage)

So I bought this off of ebay and when it arrived it transpired it is the type where the bolt behind the crank is slightly off the bolt circle diameter by a few mm so doesn't work for me. The seller was none the wiser that this was a thing and refunded me what I paid but didn't want the chainring bac...

Re: QR v Thru Axles

I think this is one of those areas where tradition seems to have trumped functionality. If we were to start from scratch and design an axle/frame interface and we assume that a (very) quick way of removing the wheel wasn't a requirement, then we wouldn't end up with what we know as a QR system. I'm...

Re: Ribble Adventure

My 10 cents is that I prefer loops to drops on my bike* having run both. I generally feel more confident with the loops that I did with drops but that may be components rather than handling. I found drops made accessing the brake lever when descending a bit more difficult and I like being able to ju...

Bamboo bike frame, WTB Trail Boss 27.5 x 2.65 and a 27.5 front wheel.

A few things that owe me nothing but are cluttering up the loft...make me an offer? Single speed bamboo cylcocross disc frame and PX carbon forks. £200?!? How do I price this? I built it in 2014 (I think) at the Bamboo Bicycle Club in London. It was ridden a fair bit but then fell out of favor and h...
