Re: Commute by bike, How far, how often

Just a quick update from me

Been singlespeed curious for a while. Cycled home in one gear only the way home and was less than a minute off my quickest time for the trip. Reckon i'll be exploring singlespeed options now!

Re: Commute by bike, How far, how often

Gosh

I've tried to do my 16 mile each way commute once a week. I mostly manage it (today is my cycling day)

I thought that was quite impressive, clearly not compared with all you lot! I cycle about 50 miles a week on average

Re: Flat Pedals?

I like my flat pedals cos I can confidence-dab and fall off without too much problem! I was surprised by how many SPD wearers there were on the WRT, I expected to see more flats. I wore Teva Links then, as they're what I usually ride in If it was wet then the Links would be too slippy, they're very ...

Does all year round mean warm enough for the winter, or cool enough for the summer? I'm pretty sure you can't have both!

Re: new pump??

Road Morph my on road bike Mountain Morphy on my MTB Yes they're large, but its almost like an insurance policy against getting punctures. I'm worried that if I switch to a smaller pump I'll actually need to use it more Mountain Morph fits inside my frame, but I put it on the fork leg for the WRT as...

That's mine too. My snow peak Ti 450 mug. Been on nearly every trip I've done since I've had it. Irrespective of the type (bushcrafting, car camping, wild camping, bikepacking, day walks)

Been used on wood, gas, meths, esbit and BBQs

Re: Which Lightweight pegs ????

Pegs are the one of the areas that I find saving weight can lead to a negative impact in actual use The lightest pegs, like Ti skewers, don't hold anything well when the ground is vaguely soft. I sometimes use them for ancillary points, but anything taking a proper load is done with something like a...

Totally Herby Stopper head net

Bought one for the WRT, no midgies. I can therefore confirm it works wonders!

Re: Talk to me about small frame bags / seat packs please

I used to have a large topeak wedge on my mtb but can't use it with a dropper so have the deuter front triangle bag too, very good value For the WRT I used a normal post with a proper seat pack so used the Deuter bag as my frame bag. Meant I could have a bottle in each bottle cage within my XL frame...

Re: Neoair Air-tap?

I have a pump sack too I use it to store my sleeping bag in when it goes in my rucksack, or in the case of the WRT in my front dry bag with my other camping bits. Keeps it dry amongst other bits if they're wet as its almost a dry bag (roll the top, seams are sealed, only a tiny hole in the bottom) I...

Re: weight verses cost

I should also probably say - my kit is light but my bike is heavy!

I use my kit for walking and other stuff so it has more uses than just bikepacking. For bikepacking it would be easier to get a lighter, rigid bike in cost terms

It's entirely subjective

Easier to save weight off you than your kit

Bikepacking bags are more aesthetically pleasing than a pannier set up. Anyone else ever thought that

It seems a lot for people that like it already But if you factor in all the costs in putting it together, plus the fact its their full time job so they need to earn from it, then it seems reasonable. How much would a guide cost to hire for a day? Personally its not for me, but its good for people wh...

Re: Montane sizing

I'd say normal to slim cut, depending on the particular jacket, but erring towards the normal I have a Lite Speed and could wear a base layer and microfleece under it easily, it was a large jacket and I was a 42in chest. I've lost weight since then so its probably a bit big on me but I haven't worn ...
