Re: WRT GR's

Duncan, there was a river crossing somewhere in that area. I could not confirm that very spot but I do recall paddling in the dark around then.
As you say, a lot of rain this winter, no knowledge of current conditions - one way to find out!

Re: Travelling across Europe quickly - how?

There is a Nightjet* service from Brussels to Prague (starts this year) and from there good connections to the South, certainly the big cities. - I believe bikes are fine. I know the race you are on about but I have not looked at where it starts. You can take your built up bike to Brussels on Eurost...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

JudithG - that sounds like a proper adventure, one to remember. I got out last night, I was supposed to go out last weekend but as soon as my foot touched the floor out of my bed I felt a sharp pain in my knee that had been troubling me for a few days. My proposed 80 mile ride had two climbs that I ...

I also have Jenny Graham’s book on the go on my Kindle. I am enjoying it but I hadn’t realised just how quick she was moving. The first 7,200km in about 23kph moving speed.

Re: What are you reading now?

Alan63 - Bader did not come across very well. After I finished it I was sorting some books out and found a book from a charity shop I have never read, or even recall buying. It was by and about the 'Prominente' Romilly and Alexander. Working my way through it now, struggling a bit with the style but...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Another amazing ride from John Allan, I am looking at the Way of the Roses this year, not in 14 hours though! I like the C2C2C idea as well, not sure if I can get the time though. I know that climb up to the Shay Elliot memorial that GoneCaving rode as well, I had wondered about bivvying near there ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Been a busy few weeks and still not posted my attempt. Look a few pages back to Reg's post that is far better than I could write. Field of Hope with Reg and Bearlegged with a ride back to Sheffield due to rail engineering works.

Re: Supertramp 2024: A Challenge

Quite like that idea and would like to have a go. A night or so inside to rest and recharge the devices we can’t possibly manage without is good.

Part of the inspiration for the original BAM was the randonneur round the year comp which I considered beyond my abilities but managed in 2015.

I saw that this morning over breakfast. I may well give it a try after the Rebellion Way. Noted the ferry comment but I would be likely to do it during drier months anyway.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Reg, thank you for inviting me along, it was a real honour to attend. I will do my write up when I am home next weekend. The cross stitch work was all herself’s work, I just asked her is there anything she could come up with to mark the occasion and that was the result. I don’t think I ever thought ...

Re: What are you reading now?

Colditz by Ben Mcintire. Really enjoying it, I saw the tv series in the early 70’s and this book shows it in a different light. I had not realised the school you went to was so important and that the officers had a batman to do the duties, and these guys weren’t allowed to escape.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Well done on getting out Mrs Polisherman, easy to give up now, I have failed numerous times in February or March.

I must follow Fatbikephil’s advice on photos. I end up with Strava or Instagram links, not ideal. I tried downloading from a Strava pic yesterday but couldn’t get it to work.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

I got out last night for my February bam. Weather has not been good and although we had a nice spell in the middle of the month I caught a cold. With more rain in the forecast but likely dry yesterday afternoon I set off south to stay in a bird hide I have stayed in a couple of times previously. The...

Re: What are you reading now?

@Godivatrailrider (I can't sort out the quote thing) . I read 'Foster' on a ferry 18 months ago and watched the film 'The Quiet Girl' based on the book last year. Excellent writer, I also read 'Small Things Like These' on the same trip, that has just been filmed with Cillian Murphy in the lead. Not ...

On my Kindle I am reading Claire Keegan's 'Antartica' and on paper I have just started The Great Divide by Tim Voors. He walked the CDT a couple of years ago. Enjoying it so far.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

@NeilA - the youngsters in the 4wd turned up at Nant Rhys. Already there was the Assistant MO and his chums who were there partly to turn away people turning up in vehicles! They muttered something about going 5 miles to somewhere, we guessed Nant Syddion, but nothing they could do to stop them. Sou...

I suspect John is going to get some 'nutter of the month ' award for January bam, that is an optimistic mid summer ride for me. My entry is Nant Rhys bothy at the WE. I have not done a lot since November due to health and then a week away. I ended up walking part of the climb to the bothy which I ha...

On the radio this morning the traffic news said that the road between Welshpool and Newtown was flooded. Something to keep an eye on over the next few days.
