Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?

I often carry a small tarp (RAB Silwing) in addition to a tent. If it's wet a tarp pitched high in trees makes a great place to get changed, or can be used as a porch for the tent.

Re: How much grief can I expect?

My 2014 Caddy was affected by the emissions thing, I declined to have the recall work done. I ran the Caddy (2.0 140hp) from 2014 to 2021, no issues at all. It was Euro 5 and I needed a Euro 6 van so bought a 2017 T6 Kombi (2.0 204hp auto). I should have bought the bigger van sooner, 6 seats or a hu...

Re: What was the problem with 29+

When I was buying my Jones a few years ago the 29+ had just become available, so I took it out for a couple of hours. It was like riding a jugernaut. Long wheelbase with big, heavy wheels, it wasn't exactly nimble, I couldn't work out what I'd ever use it for. I bought the last of the 29er frames. W...

Re: Has anyome used any stuff from Haglofs?

They are a fairly high end Scandi brand, their stuff isn't cheap but I've found it to be very good Most of my walking troos are from Haglofs, I find their long is a genuine long unlike many, helped by Scandi folks generally being fairly tall. I have 2 pairs of rugged mountain pants and they are unb...

Re: A proposal for Gravel Bikes (TM)

Traditionally a road bike is a head down, arse up, skinny tires smooth surfaces 'racing' bike, right? And an endurance road bike is a more relaxed, lower bottom bracket, larger tyred, higher front end road bike for well, endurance riding, right? A cyclocross bike is traditionally a head down, arse ...

The Basin is a beautiful ride...when it's dry and the wind is in your favour. The Basin with mud would be testing. Greetz S : ) I camped at Atlantic City, had a leisurly break...

I'm not planning on dying any time soon, but this very week I've taken out a funeral plan, everyone here in Spain has one. I've no idea what music I want but it's something I need to have a think about.

Re: The Tour Divide 2023 thread

Mikes dot follows the route he took. If you follow it closely or look at the right time you'll see he is off the current route. As the Basin has been mentioned, I think the original route across the Basin followed the GDMBR map route to Rawlins but was changed at one point to go via Wamsutter, which...

Re: The Tour Divide 2023 thread

I read an article in which Mike has said that his schedule hit some important milestones in terms of resupply and parts of the route at key times. I guess we will just have to see how that plays out with the leaders ahead of his schedule I'm struggling to see what those milestones were. I've only t...

Re: Riding in sandals....... anyone ?

I use sandals in summer, I'm not a fan of flat pedals but it's way cooler than wearing shoes, I live in Spain btw.

Pedals are Crank Bros and sandals are Teva (the usual cheap ones).

Re: RIP Nita Larronde of the Toaster House

I never stayed there. When I got to Pie Town I turned left and rode into town, everything was closed. There was a bloke staying on the campground, I got chatting to him and camped for the night, the Toaster House was on the way out of town next morning.
