Re: Is There Such a Thing as a Decent, Lightweight Combination Lock?
I found a combination lock earlier this year, posted on the local Facegroup but nobody claimed it so it's mine. It's a 4 digit thing from Halfords but how to open it? Five minutes watching the Lock Picking Lawyer on Youtube and I had the thing opened in under 30 seconds. I've got a small Abus combin...

Re: Road orientated frame suggestions please
How about this for an off the wall suggestion: if it's purely for road work and nothing else there's no end of retro steel frames about. The only issue you might encounter swapping parts from a modern bike is the rims. Older frames like narrow rims, Mavic Open 4CD that sort of thing, wider stuff won...

Re: BB gilet question.
How about a half mesh back with a semi-windproof front, removable quilted lining with detachable sleeves, optional hood with quilted, windproof and waterproof variants. A zipped breast pocket is a must have too.

Re: TDR bike suitability
I used a Jones with 2.35 Ikon's. No hand problems at all on a rigid bike. Bear in mind the Divide is a very long, mostly gravel ride, with some horrendous washboard. Only a small amount of people race it, several hundred people a year potter along it on a variety of machinery, gravel, mountain, CX, ...

Help With A Book
Some years ago I bought a book, a thin paperback but can't find it. I think it was call "Around Scotland In A Plastic Bag" but can't be sure. It was a bloke Munro bagging who didn't have funds for a bivi bag so used a fertilizer sack instead. Any help with the title and author would be app...

The first decent tent I ever bought. I binned it a couple of years ago as the fabric was starting to fall apart.

Re: Garmin offline route creation
Save the gpx, plug the Garmin into the computer, put the gpx in the folder called "new files" on the Garmin.
The same folder structure will be on the Garmin and on the SD card if you're using one. Either will do.

Re: Wildlife
Just heard my first Cuckoo of the year. I'm excited now but in 2 months time after the others have joined in, they'll be doing my head in. Annoyingly, I can't hear them any more. My hearing is shot to pieces and I have tinnitus at a couple of different frequencies. Even with my hearing aids ...

Re: BB jerseys
Actually, I quite like those shirts in the link, though plaid wouldn't be my choice. Something in a more subdued colourway, a decent phone-sized pocket, long sleeves that could be rolled up. Something you can ride in, then wear in the pub without drawing attention. Earth colours or mid-dark greens....

A few years ago on a foggy morning I saw a strange looking shaggy creature through the mist. Turned out to be an Afghan hound that had escaped. It was very friendly, had an address on his collar, so I took him home.

I posted that on their Facebook page. If you've never ridden an Alpinestars the bottom bracket is all over the place, not a nice thing to ride.

Re: and I thought I was Grumpy!
I had a noisy neighbour once. Block of 9 flats, the bloke was unemployed, got up at whenever and didn't start to party until he got back from the pub. The post was through a communal letter box, I always took his mail. There was loads of stuff that went on, for example he was off his face one night ...

Re: Feckin Lezyne Pumps
A few years ago I left my track pump and a bag with mini pumps at a B&B in Wales. The following weekend wifey and I were off to France to ride the Ardechoise so I hastily ordered a Lezyne track pump and a couple of mini's. First test of the track pump was at a campsite in France, followed by tes...

A bloke on another forum I use was a confirmed case (health worker). Dry cough, fever, no sense of smell, reckons it was pretty nasty. He's now back at work after 2 weeks. A mate with 60th birthday drinks organised for next month is now on a ventilator in St Thomas hospital London. A girl I know (he...

Re: Helmets.
I used to only wear a helmet in the winter to keep my head warm. One big crash later that split the helmet in half and I've worn them every ride since. Since that one (around 1990) I've written off another two. I'm a fan of crash helmets. No two heads are the same. I'd recommend visiting as many sho...
