Apparently Tics are already rampant up there. Permethrin lotion keeps the feckers off.

How does that ride with so much weight at the back?
Can't say i really noticed the weight. Definitely a wide load though which took a bit of getting used to.

For the TMB I'd balance it out with a Salsa cage on the bars.

I should add that I made sure I used a torque wrench to avoid crushing the stays. (4nM)

Re: Aeroe rear rack thoughts

I have one which I've strapped 2 20 litre dry bags too.

Carbon fibre seatstays on my Salsa Pony Rustler. So far done the N loop of the 550 and part of the Jennride without any dramas.

Probably going to use it on the TMB in June, though just with one bag on top.

Re: Cranktank 3 vs cages on fork + smartwater bottles

I used a 3 litre Cranktank last summer on a month long trip in France where the temperature touched 40 C a few times.

It was great to know that I always had some water.

Remember to sterilise every few days with Milton tablets or similar.

Re: Who'd have thunk it, an interesting article on Road.cc?

I've done some flying this year to enable me to ride a bike abroad. I looked at alternatives, and whilst cycling there or getting trains and ferries would be possible. I didn't have the extra time required.

As an individual with a job and family, spare time for trips is a finite resource.

I've tried most one person tents and bivi shelters. I still have several.

It's hard to look past the SMD Lunar Solo for all but the nastiest weather.

A MLD Duomid for winter use.

Re: Strathpuffer on Drops - Will I Die?

By way on an update, I didn't die, but took an absolute battering: I spent way too long recovering rather than riding. Was ultimately really pleased with how it went given that, but would not recommend drops. Rich, hope you and Tom had a good one. Well done. Tom was saying it was particularly rough...

I booked flights last year for 10 days in the Alps in June with Tom. The plan is to ride the TMB + something else whilst we are out there.

I would like to do something in Spain late in the year also.

Re: Yet another 2023 TdF trip

I think old TdF routes are great for a route as in the earlier editions, the end of one stage was the start of the next day's. It'd be a tough challenge matching their mileage every day though. Some days the winner would have been riding for ~19 hours  If I go back and do another, I like the ...
