Re: The post man's been ...
After looking in vain for a Hilleberg within budget I came across the Kuiu Storm Star. It makes for a tight pitch with its X-Pac reinforcement even though I know this has already been used for a few nights. 200 grams heavier than a Soulo but lots more room and two doors. https://i.imgur.com/PIhXQAV....

I had a gatewood and yes, I agree it would be a worthwhile experiment.frogatthefarriers wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 8:28 pm That’s a pretty neat idea. I get irritated by the pole in the middle of the Gatewood. Me not being a weight-weenie, the extra weight might be a worth-while penalty.

MYOG Duomid A frame
I've been frustrated by the central pole in my Duomid so today I put together an A frame which seems as if it will do the trick. Alpkit do a 170mm pole (Vertex), so I started with two of those. I took the knobs of the tops of the poles so that the pole would fit into a sleeve. Though I left the inte...

they sound great Phil, let me know how much please.fatbikephil wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 4:09 pm Hi Rich
I've some 'funn full on' risers spare - 30mm rise by the looks and 785 wide. Usual sweep - probably 11 degree back sweep and 5 degree up sweep I'd say. Any use?
Cheers
Phil

An update.
There were no replies on this thread when I set off, so with street view I picked somewhere "suitable" 3 miles out of town in Balornock near some shops, but not in front of someone's house.
I'll find out tomorrow if my car is still there.

Can't say i really noticed the weight. Definitely a wide load though which took a bit of getting used to.fatbikerbill wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2024 5:36 pm Rich,
How does that ride with so much weight at the back?
For the TMB I'd balance it out with a Salsa cage on the bars.

Re: Aeroe rear rack thoughts
I have one which I've strapped 2 20 litre dry bags too.
Carbon fibre seatstays on my Salsa Pony Rustler. So far done the N loop of the 550 and part of the Jennride without any dramas.
Probably going to use it on the TMB in June, though just with one bag on top.

Re: Cranktank 3 vs cages on fork + smartwater bottles
I used a 3 litre Cranktank last summer on a month long trip in France where the temperature touched 40 C a few times.
It was great to know that I always had some water.
