Re: Sleeping when bivyin
There's always the Secret Easy Sleep Technique...
Edit to add, seems a bit mad pilling yourself up to sleep while bivvying? Maybe it's not quite right for you if you have to?!

Re: Weight - King Ti Manything cage vs Salsa Anything Cage V
I know the 1st version was a fair bit lighter (and would break when you were doing something interesting, like descending at speed)... There's the plastic version too but I think that's heavier again, if bombproof. I wish they would bring back the Minimalist back rack - would be great for my cx (the...

Hmm fairly interested in trying out a 'cave bivi' - specifically the inchnadamph bone caves on the west coast... Must do some research!MikeOnabike wrote:

Trying not to but it sounds like that guy wasn't very popular :DTrail-rat wrote: I just hope they needed my advice and did not leave the guy alone at fords of avon as they planned.
Great work getting the call in though! Was it out your way or were you heading back anyway?

Re: ultra minimal multitool suggestions
There's the Specialized chain tool that fits in a top cap... Then just a couple of allan keys? (do you get a philips head allan key type thing?) https://www.evanscycles.com/specialized-top-cap-chain-tool-EV222429 The planet X emergency tool is surprisingly heavy for its size, but it's pretty compact...

Re: 2016 Highland Trail (group start)
I had a crack at a forum search, but I don't think I was using the right words But for the 2015 HT550, a sub-36 finish in the BB200* was one qualifier. I do remember there was a proper list though!

Some good ideas here, especially the cider lolly and the balloon ones
Definately gonna have a crack at some of the more sensible ones - have stem cells and various things. Bubble wrap is a pretty good insulator isnt it? Light too!

Oh a hand operated dynamo - good plan :D
This is a semi-serious topic - there's been a lot of ones about huge big rides and technical stuff, but I normally do 3 hour things about the local hills. An ice lolly that lasts an hour would be great! :)

I had to look that up - but with a dynamo hub you could stick it into a bag of some sort!Richard G wrote:Some sort of mini fridge? Peltier cooling module plus a battery? :D

Ice lollies
Has anyone got any tips for carrying them a decent distance? Like from the house/shop for a fair whack. Lets call it an hour. :-bd I used to have a very cheap insulated bottle thing from Safeway, that was filled with ice and a Magnum/Big Feast* then wrapped up in a plastic bag or three, then forced ...

Try and make the midges a positive - if you ride with your mouth open it's a free protein boost!
PS after spelling smidge wrong I found http://www.midgie.net/ who sell lengths of midge netting if people want to make a home-brew headnet, or jumper, or a MYOG bivvy bag upgrade...

Pickers exactly yep! Past Stac Pollaidh but just before it gets properly 'isley'. Really nice round there - it was mid afternoon so we pushed on, but would have been great to have camped in one of all those mini bays on the lochs! That said, ended up camping on a a pre-campsite worksite connected to...
