A bumper crop yesterday:
- a Kask Mojito from Tredz (I’ve been looking out for a medium-sized bargain for ages).
- a 27.2 Brand-X dropper for the Stooge. This will hopefully play nicely with a Rockgeist Gondola I’ve just ordered from the States.
- some Uberbike disc pads.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
May’s bivy was great, involving beer, fish and chips, a hammock, the sun, cuckoos, deer, multiple picturesque bridges, hilltop churches and, less pleasantly, thousands of abseiling stowaway caterpillars and multiple failed attempts to find a bridleway that actually crossed the A3, as opposed to just...

Yes, I know Dorking to just beyond Guildford stretch really well. It’s home turf for me. Bluebells are spectacular this year.

Yes, looks like you had fun. I’ve also done a lot of that but not all of it.
I’m planning to head west on an overnighter tomorrow evening and I may reverse some of your day one on the way back. I usually stick further south, so it’ll be new to me.

There’s also the DD Hammock under quilt to consider. Looks better as a hammock quilt and rated to -5 comfort. I’ve no experience of it myself mind.

I thought that when I saw it on their site. Looks like a serious failing for an under quilt.

Re: Quilts.... again
I’ve got a UK Hammocks ‘summer’ quilt that I’ve used, with a down jacket and base layers, well below freezing without suffering. No experience of the autumn/summer combo, though.
In the OP’s position I’d go for the Cumulus 350 or equivalent.

I have a Carnac string vest thing from Planet X. It works well but is *very* snaggy and has torn quite quickly. It is also obscene when snugged around my ageing blubber.

Re: Wildlife
At the end of one of the local cheeky MTB trails this morning, something long, slender and fast-moving caught my eye. I stopped still and spent the next ten minutes watching a weasel terrorise a family of voles. It all happened within six feet of me and the weasel seemed completely unaware that I wa...

Re: Garmin mount for 22mm bar
Thanks all. I’m going to go with the shim Suggested by Wotsits. (Thanks very much for the kind offer to post one, Wotsits, but I might as well get a spare or two so I’ll go with eBay.)

Garmin mount for 22mm bar
I want to try mounting my Edge Explore on the front loop of my loop bars and also on one of those extender bar thingummies. I can find mounts for TT bars but obviously they all mount the Garmin at 90 degrees to where I’d need it. I suppose I could try packing out a 31.8 mount but I’d prefer somethin...

Re: Harnesses that play nice with a Jones bar
I’ve made my own harness with four attachment points. It also has a strap that runs from the bottom edge of the harness up to and around the front loop of the bar and back down for extra rock-solidity.

Re: Tarps and no bivi bags
I always use a bivy bag - either a splash-proof one with a midge net or a Hunka XL, depending on the conditions. I don’t use a tarp if the forecast is settled and dry. I will sometimes use a space blanket, or tyvek, as a groundsheet if it’s really wet or muddy.

In the spirit of fostering adventure I’d vote for a rule that’s toggled on and off randomly and swaps East for West and North for South.
