Re: WRT 2014
Bah! I really want to do this but have half-organised a Torridon trip for May and won't be able to do both. Been saying I'll go back to Torridon every year for over 20 years so I can't blow it out.

Gadgets from widgets
I made a couple of stoves yesterday from Guinness cans. These days the widget in the can is a hollow white plastic ball about 15mm in diameter which looks ideal for multiple bivvying uses: 1) Use it a bit like a tarp clip to create additional guying points on your tarp (Ball inside tarp, wrap materi...

I've also just bought some Army surplus Goretex overtrousers. I cut them off and hemmed them below the knee, added belt loops plus a bit of webbing and a buckle to keep them up and added a velcro tab at the bottom of each leg so I can take in some of the extra flap. They may not be the most stylish ...

Re: Singlespeed Hubs / Freewheels
I don't see much advantage in using an SS-specific hub. Yes, you get a less dished wheel but when has dishing ever caused a problem? Not for me. If it was me and I was building on a budget I'd get a Switch Evo hub from Superstar. I've had a couple of these and they've been as good as Hope. In theory...

I haven't found anything that matches this (on paper) for performance, size and weight at a similar price.
I know various people on here have bought one recently, so does anyone have a real world review?

As newbie Southern softies we've got a very modest plan to head slightly SW and then W to a posh bistro before retiring to our luxury accommodation. We've got loose plans to head N and W in the morning before looping back to the start.

Pretty sure that one from Cotswold is what we use for family car camping. Works very well, not super light but not mega heavy either.

We were thinking of stopping at the Black Lion at Derwenlas http://theblacklion-machynlleth.co.uk/#
Anyone know if that's a good choice? It looks like it ought to be possible to find a relatively sheltered and discreet bivy spot not too far away.

Ah well, if it's no good I won't bother.
The mat is a neoair x-lite. Guess I'll try the Thermarest bag/pump.
Thanks all for your help

This seems like a good bit of kit but I can't find it for sale in the UK. So...
Has anyone used one and, if so, is it worth getting?
Is it available anywhere in the UK?
