Re: Potential Emergency Carbon Fork Needed

I don’t have any spare forks I’m afraid, but I did adjust the travel on my x-fusion forks the other day following this video from cotic, dead easy, took 15 minutes https://youtu.be/Zt56ICZtcWY?si=6I0QvbpmAzmrAdnR

WTD: Hennessy Hammock Hex Rainfly or similar

I’m after a new tarp for my hammock, I’ve got a couple of square tarps already and want to try some things with a hexagonal shape like the Hennessy Hex Rainfly, Warbonnet Thunderfly etc.

Has anyone got something they’re looking to get rid of?

Thanks
Paul

Re: How much grief can I expect?

There's a known issue with the T5 2ltr TDI 180HP engines around that time, I think it was something to do with high oil use due to a fault with cooler, which often appears after 45,000 miles. We had a deposit on one a few years ago and walked after some research. We ended up with a 2013 140HP versio...

I've got a set of 26" Marzochi Bombers, only 110mm of travel, but if they are any good to you let me know. £25 + postage

Re: Replacement 'maxle' for Chinese carbon forks

This is a US company, so shipping might be an issue, but might be helpful https://robertaxleproject.com

Edit - I’ve just seen that SJS cycles are a dealer for them, so if you can find the right one on the Robert Axle site you may be able to get it in the uk

Thanks Stu, Dee and everyone that helped out, another great Bear Bones event, and my young lads first. We both had a great time.

Re: warmer winter leg wear?

I use Endura MT500 Spray Trousers which I find warm enough for the whole winter, but if you wanted something even warmer you could try the MT500 Freezing Point trousers, I've not tried those, but they have Primaloft insulation.

I’ve started swimming more recently, I’m sure it’s improving my upper body and core strength, which helps with biking.

I’m camped up at Castlerigg, will roll down into town tomorrow morning, aiming for the filling station cafe for 9:30, or Kats Cafe at 10 depending on amount of pre-ride faffing

Really looking forward to this.

Quick question, Is the general consensus that people will be getting lunch and dinner in a pub? Just wondering how much food to bring.

Re: Viewranger being discontinued.

I think you might be right. I have access to the full UK OS maps, but don’t seem to have the pro subscription (I don’t have pro features such as offline maps, i still get “the upgrade to pro” message in the app, and they’re still offering me a discount to join pro as a ViewRanger user). I guess we’l...

Re: Viewranger being discontinued.

I’ve just been through the “access to legacy maps” process as described in the email I received from OutdoorActive, and can now see my ViewRanger OS maps in OutdoorActive without a Pro subscription. However, you do seem to need a pro license to download them so they are available offline :-(

Saloman do offer what they call "Generous Fit" and "Wide Fit" shoes, i've not tried them as I'm fine in the standard fit, but might be worth looking at.

Not cycling related but ‘Lost in the wild’ is a great book with 3 separate stories of people who got lost whilst out exploring the forests and rivers of North America https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lost-Wild-Danger-Survival-North/dp/0873515897/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=lost+in+the+wild&qid=...
