Re: playmates in Hampshire
I'm not too far away, just south of Haslemere. I'd be interested in some local trips.

Re: Shoes recommendation
I currently using a pair or specialized rimes, which have a vibram sole, and just about the right combination of flex/stiffness. They're more comfortable to walk in than my Shimano MW81 winter boots, and have more grip on rock/non muddy surfaces, and they are stiffer, but not as comfortable as my ol...

Leaving a car in Blair Atholl
I'm heading up to ride the Cairngorms Loop over the solstice weekend, I was planning on leaving the car in Blair Atholl and wondered if anyone had done similar, or had any advice on where to park up? I see there is a car park up by the Old Bridge of Tilt, but that looks a little out of the way, so t...

Re: Seat pack quandary...
I've got the terrapin and I do like it, but one thing I would say is that it is quite tall, meaning I don't have much clearance between it and the tyre on my Solaris, less than 10mm I think. I've not tried the Wildcat one, but it doesn't look as tall. Something to consider if you don't have a lot of...

Re: Bottom Bracket Fitting advice
Yep, sounds like you've got too many spacers in there. The number you need is dependent on the width of the bb shell on the frame. This should give you the number you need http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/sg/index/tech_support/tech_tips.download.-Par50rparsys-0003-downloadFile...

Re: Summer Solstice 2015 Loch Etive and Glen Kinglass.
Thanks for the gpx. looks like a nice route.
I think I'm going to take a similar approach to you, get the bulk of the riding done on the Saturday, we should have plenty of day light, but perhaps Bivi out somewhere high to avoid the midges even if it means a slight detour.

If you want a contained fire, but something that is much lighter have a look at these http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/bushcraft/RD107.html . I've got the steel one which is about 140g, this Ti one is only 56g. Stu did a review a while back which was pretty favourable, I think he recommended lots o...

http://www.satmap-xpedition.com/Home/About allows you to search for locations by grid reference, you can then add a 'Point of Interest' and export all POI's as a GPX.

On mine, the Laser Photon, the end poles split in two so they fit in with the others.Tried this, the two carbon end poles are too long

Re: Carrying Tents
I've got a laser as well. The whole thing goes in my framebag, but in separate bags, so the poles (including the two carbon fibre end poles) in the pole bag that came with the tent, the pegs in a small bubble wrap pouch that they came in from alpkit, and then the flysheet & inner both stuffed in...

It's not about bikes, but I found Jonny Muir's 'Isles at the Edge of the Sea' a good read, it's about his trip backpacking around the islands off the west coast of Scotland.

Not sure how much psi I dropped to be honest, not much though, around 10% I think, but I was just measuring sag.
Mine also stick when left standing, but that goes after the first push.

Re: Anyone use X Fusion Slide forks?
I've got them on my Solaris, and I'm not convinced either, they do seem a bit better now I'm running them with 30% sag, but I wont be recommending them to anyone.
I've had to send them back twice as the rebound and lockout stopped working.

Re: Seat pack quandary...
The terrapin is waterproof, i went for that as it had the extra capacity, but only really needed that for winter trips. The shaped drybag makes it easy to fit in the harness.
