Re: how to convert 142mm x 15mm DT Swiss 350 rear 6 bolt hub to boost standard!?
will need 148 x 12 mm caps, nothing else No 135 and 142 has the disc in the same place so end caps alone will work Boost moves the disc as well (front and rear) so needs disc adapters (and wont work with centrelock as far as i know) My 142 was pawls then ratchet it used the same end cap for both an...

Re: how to convert 142mm x 15mm DT Swiss 350 rear 6 bolt hub to boost standard!?
If you only space out on one side you need to redish the wheel (as it wont be central)
Mine are 3mm spacers each side so keep wheel central
Never had any issues with ebay kits and done thousands of miles on minem

Re: how to convert 142mm x 15mm DT Swiss 350 rear 6 bolt hub to boost standard!?
I have always just put a boost kit on (but not tried with my dt as it is 148 (and my 142 is rarchet* ). I buy cheap ones of ebay. * I cannot see how the freewheel is in a different place for a ratchet over pawls (did not make any difference to mine when i swapped over) so not sure why type matters b...

Re: Brakes; mechanical or hydraulic?
So, for me, more remote bikepacking, maybe some distance from any shop that might have spares, I much prefer the simplicity of cable discs, YMMV of course All your failures are shimano and inwould not have them on my bikepacking bike as its a lnown weak point / issue. IME bled brakea from other mak...

Brutal climb that not helped by doing it as the last climb. I did clear it but did also stop for a rest about half way upMainly the 25% climb that comes soon after entering Huddersfield and also features on the NorthPeaks100

Re: Brakes; mechanical or hydraulic?
Hydraulic . More power and never had a seal issue when in use. Will bleed them before a big long (multi day) ride. That said my road bike were done about 4000 miles ago and are still fine my mtb is 2500 on new brakes without service. Cable is simpler (but its less power*) and potentially trail servi...

Gas cannister and stove and pan(s) packs smaller , is lighter and more useful/adaptable
Reliable as can be though.

Re: Missing the point?
Which begs the question, if you’re following a GPX, especially if a GPX someone else has made for you, is it an adventure in the pure sense of adventure?. Which implies the only way to have an adventure is to be lost and clueless about your whereabouts Solo around the world, with a gpx, is now not ...
