Is there a link to Jim Barrow's version in the meantime? This is near me and i would potentially be interested in riding it.

Re: Talk to me about Rohloff

This thread has reminded me I need to change the oil on my and my wife's touring bikes before our summer trip. How essential is it to replace the drainage plug with a new one? The price of a full kit is £17.99 or so which includes the plug, but for £47 I can get 250ml of each oil...... I have the sy...

Re: Anybody been ill after bikepacking

My incident was after a ride on Jacob's Ladder in the Peaks. Just as the snow as melting - and you could see the dog turds emerging from the melting snow that the owners had not been able to retrieve. My mate had a front mudguard - and a clean face after the ride and enjoyed his steak and wine that ...

Frame bag advice please

I got some Alpkit vouchers for Christmas and am looking at getting a full frame bag for my hardtail. Little bit unsure about the options though - specifically the divers. i am inclined to go with the horizontal divider with two zips as this would be better for potentially carrying tent poles - any t...

Re: Convert 2 x 10 to 1 x10?

Honest question - why convert? I have only one 1x11 bike - and I hate it. The gears - not the bike! I LIKE being able to drop a bunch of gear ratios in a single change, and vice versa. I have 2x10, 3x9 and 1x11 - and of them the 1 by is my least favourite. If it had the mounting bits for a front mech...

Re: Best one man tent - on a budget

Following on from recommendations found the Vango option is out of stock largely but then came across this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vango-Helium-Tent-Alpine-Green/dp/B01LB0NFDG from Amazon Global Store. Slightly worried about "Manufacturers Warranty Will Not Apply" bit and the fact that w...

Best one man tent - on a budget

I have tried the bivvy bag and tarp option and decided I hate bugs too much. So am thinking about getting a lightweight one man tent instead - needs to be packable, light, decent for UK conditions and with a bug proof inner. Something suitable for the Cairngorms next year (hopefully!) Budget not lim...

Thanks for the advice. Went with the Vango Nitestar S in the end. With various discounts £25.50 each so hopefully hits the sweet spot.

After a recommendation for cheapish sleeping bags

Slightly off topic here but you lot seem to always have a nose out for good deals.... I need to invest in semi decent but still cheap sleeping bags for the kids - a 2 year old and a five year old so think milk, dirt, bodily fluids. They need to be semi -disposable in other words - I don't want to bu...

Cumulus 350 or 450?

I have nearly convinced myself I need a quilt. In fact was about to get a Cumulus 450 following all the threads on here except they are currently out of stock! So now trying to decide if I wait till it comes back in or go for the 350, which is lighter and cheaper.... UK use, probably mainly three se...

Re: Tubeless Cyclocross Tyres

Landcruiser gets my vote. Very nearly as bombproof as tubeless but if something does go wrong much easier to sort out. Very cheap too and last forever. My go-to tyre for my commuter - and where I am from that is how it is spelt ;-)

Battery recharger - robust

I am after a fairly lightweight, decent but overall robust battery recharger. I had a Proporta one which did the job but the recharging port (for the pack) failed after a few trips so I can no longer recharge it. Any recommendations? I am thinking in particular of a nine day stage race I have coming...

Re: Replacement, aftermarket poles for an MSR tent

Thanks very much for the advice. As the ten wads our lightweight cycle touring tent it didn't see very regular use and is now really too old for warranty. i will deifnitely look at the Easton and hampton options - thanks!

Replacement, aftermarket poles for an MSR tent

We have an MSR Carbon reflex 3 tent which we bought for cycle touring. Overall it is a good tent - the only issue we have had is the carbon fibre poles snap. So far we've had them go twice and in one occasion the sharp end then tore the flysheet. In both cases MSR replaced poles (and flysheet!) FOC ...

Last minute bikepacking route recommendations - sunny!

Ok based on the weather our planned, non ITT version of the Cairngorm Loop has been canned. We are simply not hard enough for that. Thing is leave is booked and cna't be moved so looking for a last minute option which promises better weather. ideally bikepacking, off road but open to off the wall su...
