Re: Bargain Alert Thread

Dennis winter doing breeze blocker hand guards down from 30 to a fiver. Not sure about them and their worth. Maybe one for stew to review at that price. http://www.denniswinter.com/breezeblockers-m293?utm_source=57_Managers_Special_Offer__80_OFF_Breezeblockers_Cycling_Hand_Guards&utm_medium=emai...

Re: Waterproof boots

Remember if it can't get in it also can't get out. Should you go knees deep in something you're screwed. I had the same predicament before but settled for a less costly pair of sealskins socks (full winter ones).

Re: silshelter

Yeah needlesports have acknowledged the fault with the shelter and sent a replacement out straight away. They also refunded me the cost of the postage sending it back to them which I thought was nice. I'm actually excited to use it. I don't care about pack size and bulk. I think it will offer a diff...

silshelter

Silly daft question here. On the bargain thread the silshelter was mentioned at being half price. Bagged me one of those straight away. Now with the lack of instructions im confused by something. It seems that one of the pole pockets has been stitched on the incorrect side to me. Can anyone shed som...

Re: Wanted: Lightweight 2 person tent.

Honestly check out the wild country zephyros 2 tent. I think it is around 130 bucks in some places. Its just a cost effective alternative to the terra nova competition tent and made by the same people. It would also come with a guarantee

Re: The post man's been ...

New bits been turning up over the past few days with the prized kestrel finally arriving today. The Rab ground cloth from r &r backpacking. Heard the ul7 doesn't fit the bag so thought I would try neoair short (I only intend to use this in summer so not worried about 4 season bag and loft). Just...

Re: alpkit hunka

Thank you for the replies as always I appreciate the input. Out of curiosity if you're using the narrower counterparts such as the hunka regular or the other one I've got my eye on is ti goat kestrel do you protect your matt underneath? is waterproofing an issue or mould growth. I really want to use...

alpkit hunka

Probably been covered a hundred times already. I want to buy a biv but I want to put the roll matt inside. I use a synmat ul7 reg so would this fit in the normal hunka or just the xl? I only intend to use this with a summer bag as I prefer my tent in harsh weather. Input appreciated Thanks. Oh I'm a...

It's a dead ringer for the vaude hogan. The hogan was a good tent in the summer but dreadful in winds as there was no guy lines on the back. Ever tried sleeping with your legs in the air to stop a tent collapsing at 3 in the morning!

Got the titanium version and it is super swish. Never planned to actually cook with it though. I always wanted one just for a small personal fire for a bit of warmth if needed.

Optrex chain lube

Bit if a crap one but most of us have an eye wash kicking about in a drawer (the little plastic one). Pop the lid off, wash it out and fire in some chain lube, lid back on and you have a Perfect sized lube applicator with enough juice for a weekend jolly. Pretty good to have around the coastlines.

Dakota or Etrex 30 are the usual recommendations. Slight highjack, sorry I've got an old Garmin Etrex Vista HCx with a very, very basic topo map which is ok of sorts. For those who use the Dakota or Etrex 30 please can you tell me where is the best (cheapest) place to get the OS maps from and which...

Re: Thermartex bedding blanket

As always I appreciate the input. I agree this will be difficult one to quantify given the variables involved. The cost is relatively inexpensive but space in my kit list is at a premium. Given the size of the product itself and your experiences with it, would it therefore be joining you this winter?

Thermartex bedding blanket

I know when we're on top of the sleep bag we compress the down and reduce the air it traps and thus its abiltity to insulate. Therefore I am particularly interested in using this either under the roll matt or the sleep bag itself to reflect and possibly radiate some heat back. Has anyone used this i...

For me it has to be Tryfan mountain at SH664594. Some of the best walking and scrambling to be had in North Wales and a great day out for anyone.Literally park the car and within 5 minutes you're at the bottom. Brilliant!

Re: How to carry poles?

You can buy male thread adapters for the tube to use screw on lids. Use a little pvc cement to bond and it will make a good job a little neater.
