Re: Pro roadies do bikepacking

@jameso I briefly met Conor Dunne and Larry Warbasse on Torino-Nice, they were cycling opposite direction on their #nogotour after having lost their jobs at Aqua Blue team, they picked up some cheap bikepacking gear from Decathlon and went for it, and they seemed to have had a whale of a time. The R...

Didn't realise that Whitestone sorry, just seemed a lot of bag for the money if he's on a budget.

Here it is, won't find cheaper than this, was tempted myself:

Re: Mike Hall's inquest - Guardian report

I must admit i had a bit of a leaky eye reading Patricia Hall's comments, that takes a very strong person and i think i can see where Mike got his resolve from. I think that the best thing that can come of this is too build on his legacy and recognise what he did in inspiring so many people, to me, ...

Re: Bikes leaning against random stuff thread.

Asposium, it is yes, i usually use Ultergra chainset on there, but was geared especially low for Torino-Nice, so 38/22 front and 11-36 rear, 11 speed road stuff with 10 speed XT cranks, and it worked really well for crawling up some of those Cols.

Re: Those little jobs...... Infuriating!

Weirdly the job i hate most is placing saddle on seatpost, i always end up undoing bolt to far and dropping part of on the floor, then spend 10 mins on hands and knees finding it, only to do it again within 2 minutes!

Re: Mike Hall's inquest - Guardian report

Terrible piece of journalism which doesn't surprise me these days.

Seems to ignore the fact that it is a long, straight, flat road and that the 19 year old driver has previously stated that they were distracted by a truck before hitting him.

Did you meet the Danish guys and gals on the TNR - they looked impeccable every day, whilst they rode twice as quick as me up everything, i looked like a sweaty bag of spanners by half through first day?!

I slept in the fort last Monday night on the TNR (the upper fort with the wooden bridge across), didn't see the kitchen though? There were four of us in there and whilst we were chatting a very tame fox stole Andy from this parishes cheese and sausage (not a euphemism) and came back in the night to ...

Re: Gearing question...sorry

Depends how low you want to go. For the Torino-Nice rally as everyone had advised "you cannot gear low enough". I used: Ultegra 11 speed shifters, 11 speed Ultegra rear medium cage mech, 11-36 cassette and XT 10 speed 38/22 chainrings, worked really well. Andy from here used, 10 speed shif...

As one of those that definitely "toured" the route, i want to thank James, what a stunning route and scenery. I hope that there isn't the need for qualifying rides in the future, as if you saw 110kg bloke from Norfolk on the application i wouldn't do well, but i had an amazing time. We did...

Re: Silk Road Mtb Race

As above, not ridden out there, but ridden in Boliva and Peru at altitudes of up to 4800m and if you're hiking you can take 10 steps and stop, but on a bike you can't really do 10 pedal strokes and stop and get off, back on and repeat, so you often just end up pushing the bike.

Only concern with the Kinesis was the short warranty for a ti bike. But in the usual recommend what you have, take a look at the Reilly Gradient, nicest bike i have ever owned, with road wheels beats my carbon road hands down and with 45c gravel tyres in has been really capable off road, plus it's a...

Re: Bike Jobs for a Chilled Sunday

Any one have a job they hate?

For me, and it is an easy job really, but i hate placing a saddle in seat post clamp!! Always manage to totally undo one or both bolts, always drop one on floor, often more than once, and can produce whole sentences using nothing but swear works and grunts!
