Re: Your top 3 ITT tips.

Split the event into mentally manageable chunks, each having their own little goal. If you get delayed and need to catch up time for any reason, getting to a resupply before it closes, ferry etc. don't try to ride faster as you most likely won't make up the time anyway and you are more likely to jus...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

I'm 3 rides off 55x55 and after that I'm at the stage where all the rides are 1hr 20m or so away. Regularly driving big distances to ride a bike doesn't sit entirely right with me tbh. Although I'll probably still do it... Yeah, this is somewhat my dilemma at the moment and probably the reason that...

I'm actually still at 40x40. The purple square marked on this image, I believe is 51x51, which could be as little as 5 rides away depending on what I decide to do.

I would tell myself that I would try to do 1, but then just end up doing 2... I have been quite into online gaming over the last 10-15years and played with a number of regulars groups that have consisted of players from all over Europe. I have done quite a few meetups and my normal experience of mix...

Re: Your favourite moments?

I really like when riding through the night, coming out of a long stretch of very quiet dark lanes into a small town that is lit but deserted. Having 5 minutes or so of seeing civilisation a different way to normal and with different eyes, then blasting out the other side back into the dark lanes.

Re: ever wish you were strong enough to ride single speed ?

I snapped a gear cable last Sunday after 130km and had to ride the last 75km basically single speed.

Single-speed is never having the right gear... I really don't understand the attraction for anything other than a city bike.

Re: Is next year a write off already?

London-Edinburgh-London has been pushed to 2022 now which was going to be one of my big ones for next year. LEJOG1400 has been rescheduled from 2020 to 2021 but I have no idea if that will end up happening. I suppose we had thought about trying to do the trip to Canada that was cancelled this year b...

Re: Festive 500 in a oner?

I was thinking of doing it as a oner this year between Christmas and New Year. Not sure yet if that is my own route as a DIY Audax or doing one of the GWR Festive500 Audax events. I think maybe something similar to the "Pint 2" route but starting/ending in Birmingham. Will has arranged 3 d...

Re: the toughest road climb in the uk is.......... ?

Pretty sure neither of these would really constitute the toughest but... Bushcoomb Lane in the Cotswolds is a bit of a stinker at 25%. The Burway on the Long Mynd can be tough if the wind is in the wrong direction as particularly the last section is very exposed. It's also one of those that keeps ap...

I had always been waiting for this type of plan before getting a SPOT. Hadn't noticed that they had finally got around to offering one.

7 months switched on you save money compared to the yearly subscription.
8 months break even.
9 months and it would be cheaper to go for the yearly subscription.

Those stunningly big views are what I always go to Wales for. They just don't exist in the Midlands, I guess the Long Mynd is the closest we have here.

Strava does it for subscribers. It's not bad as far as I've been able to tell. Chuck your route up and I'll put it in if you like. In my experience the Strava one is terrible. I even plotted a route that was all A/B road to just be the fastest way to get somewhere after work and roughly a third was...

Re: What's The Furthest You've Had To Walk Back Due To A Mechanical?

Does body mechanal count?

Pushed out for an hour and a half in the pissing rain, at night with a broken arm. Made a make shift sling with a spare tube. Spent another hour on the platform shivering and going into shock. It was a testing evening.
