Re: Which chain lube?

I've used many chain lubes over the years. My favourite is Squirt as it keeps my chain the cleanest out of all the lubes I've tried. After a ride I clean my bike thoroughly and wipe the chain with a rag and that's all I need to do. I top up the lube if I've been in atrocious conditions but otherwise...

Re: GRRR. Cracked rim again

I've had 4 Stans Arches over 2 years. All of them cracked around the spoke holes drive side on rear wheel. I first thought it may be the mechanics fault but I was wrong. There is definitely a problem with this rim and a friend of mine had the same issue. I bought a DT Swiss XR331 instead which is a ...

Re: Undercarriage Multi-Day Hygiene

Baby wipes, then talc, then put on clean merino long johns. Also a bit of Sudocrem before going to sleep helps if you're a bit sore.

Re: BOA vs Northwave SLW2

I've got the Northwave system. I've snapped/cut two of them, probably on rocks? I had one fail on the HT550 but as the shoe also has a velco strap above the laces it was able to ride on without issue. I've had the shoes since 2017 and it took a lot of mileage to break them. I've now replaced the No...

BOA vs Northwave SLW2

I've been looking at getting some new shoes and have noticed some come with the BOA lace system. I have also been looking at Northwave shoes which have their own lace system called SLW2. What I've read is that BOA uses a steel lace whereas the Northwave use some sort of braid instead. What are peopl...

I'm still using 3x10 and don't plan to change it any time soon. Works flawlessly (if maintained properly) and gives me all the gears I need. ๐Ÿ˜

Crank Bros Candy vs Eggbeater

I've been using eggbeaters for a few years now and really like them. I've recently bought some Shimano MW7 shoes and have noticed the soles aren't as stiff as my other shoes. I can feel a difference in less power transfer through the eggbeater pedals. I've been looking at the Candy 1's and see they ...

Re: Similar to Exposure, but not... is there such a thing?

I've had a Torchy light for about 8 years and it's been brilliant. However the wire started to fray and I couldn't work out how to fix it. I read all the reviews and bike light forums and eventually decided on the Ravemen PR1600. The build quality is superb and I like not having an external battery ...

Re: Stans Arch & Crest

I had a reply from Garett at Stans. He reckons even reputable wheel builders are over tightening the spokes on Arch rims and said he has seen this a lot. He recommends a maximum of 105 kgf which is 20 less than what's listed on their website.

Re: Stans Arch & Crest

I know what you mean but all the mechanics I've used have good reputations in wheel building and have been recommended. I've read on other forums that it is a common problem with Crests and Arches. I've emailed Stans HQ to see if they can offer any advice. If all else fails I'll try another make of ...

Re: Stans Arch & Crest

Don't think so. I've had them built by different mechanics and initially thought that. The spoke tensions have been under and at the recommended torque but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Stans Arch & Crest

I've had two Crests develop cracks around the spoke holes and two Arches that have had the same problem. All in the space of 2 years which have bee replaced under warranty. I'm well under the recommended rider weight so not sure what's causing this. Anyone else had the same problem with these rims?

It'll be a compatibility issue with the type of gas canister you're using. I have a Kraku and only use it with Coleman canisters and it works perfectly.

I have tried loads of different pillows over the years and have never found any that are comfortable until I bought a Thermarest Compressible. Re: What GPS unit to get?

I've used a Dakota 20 for years and it's been great on preloaded GPX files although it's very slow with a low res screen. Upgraded to a Garmin Edge 830 recently and love it. Also depends on how much you want to spend.

Is having a front derailleur to change chain rings not a better idea than doing it by hand? I thought that's what it was invented for. I'm interested in trying 1 x, no doubt I'll think it's great and not go back ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

Re: 1 X

I understand the simplicity but seems like technology is going backwards. Less gears, less choice and less combinations. One thing I can't work out is if you're powering up a hill out of the saddle in a mid gear and want to get down to a small gear quickly once you're at the top you can do so quickl...
