Re: Are new GPS units much better than older ones?

The core GPS/mapping functionality hasn't changed much if at all. Newer units might be able to use Glonass and/or Galileo as well as GPS but that's not required or mandatory to get accurate location data. Much of the extra functionality seems to be things like Bluetooth connectivity, useful if you ...

Re: 2025 - A year to look forward to? What are your plans?

A rarely make plans for the upcoming year except for holidays with the family, so I’ll keep that theme running through 2025 :-bd However, I’m hoping to read a lot more this year. Last year was kicked off with audiobooks but I need to spend more time reading the books. Thankfully I’ve built up quite ...

Re: Happy whatever ...

Two family gatherings done, one pantomime ticked off (actually, I enjoyed that one) and one more family party to attend and then I can settle down and start to enjoy the holidays :-bd I find it incredibly stressful seeing everyone over Christmas, both sides of the family are lovely but feel it’s jus...

So rarely seen, I’ve seen them twice this week

Shaf, I mentioned Gordon Buchanan previously but he’s just done a camel trekking program in the Gobi and went to see if he could see these bears. Worth watching

Why not do a guide book for Brompton packing/touring and then you’ll have to get one. See it as a business transaction?

Re: What can I do for a 2025 challenge ?

I’ve done a custom map and coloured in each square I’ve visited by foot or bike (driving allowed to get to places). Bit of a luddites veloviewer  Done that for two years but this year, it’s another custom map but I’m going to try and do an A-Z of it (thankfully I live near a zoo for Z…) I’ve of...

Re: 2024 reflection

Whoops, yeah 2035 is a little bit off  1) Not by bike this year but did a lovely little summit in Snowdonia/Capel Curig, Crimpiau. It’s stunning, bit of a motorway walk way in but means it’s suitable for most people. Little climb just before the reservoir and then you met with absolutely stunni...

2024 reflection

Not too long to go before 2035 and I always start a thread like this. Sometimes it’s welcomed and sometimes it’s not  1) Favourite outing (not necessarily by bike) 2) Favourite piece of kit of 2024 3) Favourite media piece 4) Open category for chat! I’ll have a think but hopefully someone will ...

Another update for 2023-2024 It was always a winter project, so started winter 2023 in December, did one ride and came down with the flu, so didn’t ride all of December except for the opening weekend. Autumn was pretty much a write off too, so reasonable happy with my custom map version this year. W...

Had a good Thursday and Friday

Thursday, blue sky in the clwydians, minus 5 according to the car and a nice solitude walk

Friday up Siabod, quite a few people out. Swirling snow, bit of a slog up the hill and zero views from the summit but some stunning scenes on the ascent
