Re: ROVANIEMI 300

You could always hire one in Rovaniemi, know of two girls over the years who have done so (and they both won their events too!), so a good option if you want to race but not necessarily have the embarrassment of owning a fat bike  27.5 seems to becoming the norm now in fat bikes over 26” but bo...

Up on the ridge between Moel Famau and Moel Arthur today, not a soul on there except me and the wifey! Never seen it so quiet before, not even mid week in the dark

Re: ROVANIEMI 300

It’s 8.30 local time and Ian has 55km (+ ~10km) to go, maybe an all nighter in the cards to secure the podium?

Either way, good luck and stay safe :-bd

Re: ROVANIEMI 300

Meant to ask. Simon when you did it were you allowed a drop bag at the 150km mark? I noticed it in this year's notes for the 300 and can't recall seeing it before. First year for the bag drop. Cracking pace from Ian, the next river crossing is tricky. Best done (by all accounts) in daylight, so a s...

Re: ROVANIEMI 300

I only saw it after I got back. What put me off the 300 was the very close spacing of the dots on the loop out of rov = lots of pushing. Do you mean button pushing or proper pushing? yeah there are a lot of checkpoints but think it works out on average 1 every 10km, I know it gives the race organis...

They use it on the 300 only. Good luck all, looked like the 300 was a bit of a schlep compared to the 150.....
Can’t remember there being a group track leaders when I did the 300 in 2017 but then my mind is like a sieve  Do remember setting up an individual tracking page for it

Super! Didn’t realise they (ie the race) were using track leaders (is it a first), so I’ll be tuned in for this week and the next few days after

Good luck to Ian :-bd

I’m sure Louis Theroux has done programmes on these types of people. Be worth finding as they are ‘interesting’. Seems to be more of a USA thing but I’m sure it will spread over the pond Freaks if you ask me* *There again, I’m the sort of person who doesn’t buy milk until the carton is empty...

Quite enjoyed listening to Jay P talk, don’t normally do podcasts but thought Gear Junkie did well. Flowed pretty well. Have also listened to most of the Lael Wilcox interview on the same channel and enjoyed it too :-bd Both are heading out to Morocco, so someone from here will have to stand between...

I guess it depends on how many maps you need, but I buy the paper version map and use the scratch panel for the online code, that way I have both paper and digital versions

Re: Moel Famau?

Yeah, that'll be fine Stu.

Will be a steep hike-a-bike from the car park up to the ridge but fine once on it. When turning off the ridge, it does tend to get very muddy, so be prepared to some pushing (which I'm sure you'll be fine with).

Re: Moel Famau?

Mid week is doable but I probably wouldn’t take the main path to the summit. The best time up there are mid week in the evening and I’d just avoid the summit at the weekends, really not worth it (too busy - went up on Sunday running when the sun was setting and i thought a charity event had been in ...
