Re: New waterproof jacket

I need a new jacket, my North Face Flight Series, which cost an arm and a leg a few years ago (£180 after discount) is letting the weather in. I've NikWaxed it quite a few times... it starts off with healthy looking beads of water so you think it's working, but after a couple of hours you realise i...

That's the one. As a series, it probably is a first but they're claiming a gravel race first

(or "the closet we'll get to a UK gravel race")

Re: 29er, is it all that?!

5 foot 7 and I've coped well with a 29er for the last 8 months. On my first ride, the bike felt instantly right and I've never felt that before, either the wheel size had something to do with it or the frame geometry (probably both). Either way, I won't go back to the 26 inch wheels (excerpt on my f...

7 years singlespeeding (nearly been longer singlespeeding than I've been with the wife!) and I've never had a problem with the cheap Sram 8 speed chains

It looks wicked Ben, bet you're pleased with it.

If you like the paint work on the frame, I would cover the tubes with inner tubes to stop the bag straps from rubbing the paint off.

Re: Weight Weenie Bike Thread....

Salsa el maraichi is about 26lbs in singlespeed setup
When the Salsa Mukluk is finished, it will be about 35lbs
Genesis equilibrium road bike is about 21lbs

More importantly, rider weight is 135lbs (something that most weight weenies forget to mention ;) )

Re: Bogies on my kit after using Nikwax!

Nothing wrecked Johnny, although my buff did need a second wash to clear the bogies. I never measure how much liquid I put in the wash, so that may have something to do with it (I.e too much cleaner?)

Re: Bogies on my kit after using Nikwax!

I've had that before. It was a normal wash after my waterproof but couldn't work out what the 'bogies' were/came from! That answers a mystery from a few months back. Can't help you with an answer though

Pop some hydro fluid in the freezer and see what happens! ;) . Think I'm going to put myself in the freezer and see what happens  I think you really need to consider .... you're entering a 150 mile race which will feature snow, ice and minus stupid ... just how much riding that requires brakes...

Hydraulics or mechanical discs on a fat bike

I've always run hydraulics discs on my bikes and I've never had a problem with them, but mechanical appeal to me for ease of changing cables, flights etc. However, as the fat bike is for the Rovaniemi150 next year, which are more reliable in cold (possibly -30c) temperatures? I'm thinking that the h...
