Re: Frame Mounted Hydration...

I've got the 3l crank tank and other than sounding a bit funny I've not noticed the sloshing causing any momentum issues, I've not ridden it off-road in anger yet though. It is an amazing piece of kit though especially (so far) for touring because you can use it around the campsite. I'll report back...

A black powder coated Jamis Renegade of any interest? It's built up at the moment all of which I'd be willing to sell but if you offered the right amount I'd happily sell you just the frame and forks?

A proposal for Gravel Bikes (TM)

So I spend far too much time thinking about what bikes are refered to as what and why, and for once this has led me to what I think is a somewhat interesting (and mostly personally amusing) idea. Traditionally a road bike is a head down, arse up, skinny tires smooth surfaces 'racing' bike, right? An...

Thats Hannah and I in first weekend, seems nowadays I need someone who hasn't done it before to coax me round or I fall back on "I've already got a black badge I don't care enough to keep riding"

Re: Route creation - workflow, algorithms and the like

For my 2 tours across France (Cherbourg - Chamonix) I've just used Google Maps cycling directions then downloaded to a GPX via a website. It's never been perfect (I distinctly remember an attempted run down a motorway at some point) but particularly the most recent trip last summer it was pretty goo...

Long Shot WTD - Old style VO Crazy Bars

I'm just putting the feelers out there to see if anyone has a pair of the original 'road' (i.e. aluminium) rated Velo Orange Crazy Bars they'd be willing to sell?

Many thanks,
Ben.

I don't know if they still exist, but at this time of year I borderline live in 1 of my 3 pairs of Humvee Lites. They're made of almost nothing, white and dry faster than anything else, if I find more I'll buy more - 100% recommend.

The missus and I recently got one of these to take (mostly) touring and while not the lightest (1.4kg with 2 of Stu's carbon poles) it's absolutely palacial and perfect for 2 to live out of. Packs up tiny too. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/trekking-tarp-tent-mt900-2-person/_/R-p-324534?mc=8612300&am...

I've been running either 1 or 2 Alpkit Bosons on my bars (both bought on sale for <£25 each) and an Alpkit quark on my helmet. Nothing flashy and both run charge off microUSB (ewww) but with some brightness tweaking it will last as long as you need and allow you to see as much as you want. Not a who...

Re: Your dream gadget / component ideas.

A 1.1/8" straight steerer Lauf fork would be an instant buy for me, almost regardless of the price, but alas, it looks like I'll have to settle for finding a frame builder to replace my head tube instead.

WTD: Metal Salsa Anything cage

I've had 1 in a box for years, recently had the space in my gf's kit to use it, it's great, I want another to match.

Who's got one, and what do you want for it?

Many thanks,
Ben.

FREE: Kids/Womens Bike/Frame Project

Free to a good home is my childhood Marin Coast trail mountain bike (Seat tube length ~34cm). Honestly what you're getting is a nice (V-Brake) alloy 26er mountain bike frame with a fairly random collection of old low end components attatched. The frame is in very good condition with no dings and min...

Are we allowed to throw gravel at the first person to wear one to a Bearbones event? Or do they win a special prize?

Re: what is a bikepacking bike?

a bikepacking bike is a bike that you want to ride so far that you can't fit it into one day and a bike that can carry enough gear to spend a night/s out in such a way as to retain the enjoyment of that riding - regardless of the cycling discipline. ^ this may not get you an attributes list or a pr...

Re: what is a bikepacking bike?

I think it was Stuart who (years ago) in comparing touring and bikepacking suggested that the big difference is the intent of the trip. - Bike touring is travelling by bike, the sightseeing, camping etc are all integral to the experience and the riding is almost secondary. Carrying extra to make the...
