Re: HT550 2023

I have just come back from weaving across Northern Scotland for six days from JoG to Blair Atholl - the boggy ground I have done before seemed drier (can't vouch for Road of 1000 Puddles). However the ticks were atrocious, I removed more ticks from my legs on this trip than in all previous 15 years...

Re: Soma Dream Riser Bars

Think I'm firm on the price as bars are expensive to post due to the length! Message me with your email for pics I’ve sold bars on here before, and have shipped them using outlandishly sized boxes instead of as a cylinder. A Royal Mail medium parcel is 61x46x46cm, and the internal diagonal of this ...

Matt those bags have your name on them... Well, I know your name's not Jones but you know what I mean! I'd have them for mine but I don't pack enough stuff to need them, just have a Jones products hoarding urge. Oh really? Might I interest you in a frame bag for a Spaceframe… https://bearbonesbikep...

Jones Alpkit Spaceframe bag

I’ve got an Alpkit Jones Spaceframe bag for sale - £50 posted. Alpkit allegedly made a small run of these - it’s got both the Jones and Alpkit logos on it. It fitted my Ti Spaceframe perfectly, with the Velcro carefully placed to not affect any decal placement. Having sold the frame, the bag is surp...

Re: Glasgow central to Oban bike reservation confusion?

Dalmuir is the 10th calling point from Glasgow It’s the 10th station from Central, but first from Queen Street as they’re two different lines that converge there. It’s a local service - and I’ve never ever had an issue with local Glasgow trains and bike spaces. They’ll make it fit. I suspect ScotRa...

Re: We'd a pair of normal 29er wheels.

Even cheaper from Superstar (and slightly hidden on their website) are these wheels, after discount they are £51. Think you do have to wait until Dec though and put up with a coloured rim. Super cheap though! https://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/fuel-60poe-xx27-probuild-deal.htm Just ordered a se...

Re: Ventile - Alpkit Jump the Wagon

So I’m the only person on Bearbones who owns one? I’ve had it a few months, bought at £250. It’s so comfortable for walking, breathes well and looks good. I’ve worn it in frankly horrible weather, up Munros and so on. It goes stuff when wet, which causes it to shrink a bit, but it has kept me warm a...

Re: SPOT Tracker Renewal Fees - Being Gouged?

We’ve not heard a moan about Spot for a while, but I’m considering reactivating mine for an imminent (non bikepacking) trip. I’d switched it off at the start of the lockdown, as I had no reason to keep it active. Turns out the activation fee is per service contract, not per device, which is putting ...

Sadly not - as a Z pole it’s three interconnected sections with a glued cable running through it all.

Re: Carbon (walking) pole repair?

I was thinking of sanding down to the raw carbon, then wrapping in epoxy-soaked carbon cloth. That's likely all you can do Alasdair. You could potentially add some additional strength by cutting a v down the length of a piece of tube (so it'll conform to the taper) and bonding / wrapping that on. T...

Carbon (walking) pole repair?

Given the fondness for carbon on here, I figured it’s as good a place as any to ask. I’ve snapped a Black Diamond Carbon Z pole, almost all the way round. It’s now more of an M pole than Z, but it’s still connected. Does anyone recommend a DIY repair kit so I can get using this again? I’ve been quot...

Re: selling all and getting a cheating bike.

E-bikes keep people riding, and for that reason I’m supportive of them. I know someone with MS, and another guy late 70s, and they’ve kept them able to ride. For me, the grey area is as a replacement for a regular MTB. Part of biking for me is the suffering, and you lose a lot of that with the motor...

Re: Stupid, genius, or will I die...?

Half fat was a "thing" in the infancy of fatbiking. Quite a few Jones's were set up like that (with a 4" tyre). No reason not to try it but it was a fad that didn't seem to last. In fact I know of this exact setup being for sale in the classifieds… Anyway - 29x2.2 is a bit bigger tha...
