Re: What bike do you bikepack on the most?
Most bikepacking done on a hardtail 29er, but I've also done stuff on a rigid 29er (same model of bike but not the same bike), some SS 29er and also looking to do some on the fatbike.

I'm considering riding the route next summer with a mate. Is it worthy of an inclusion on Self Supported UK if we ITT it?

Re: Highland Trail 2015
The missus and I have recently reduced to one car so to avoid leaving her without for a week I'm thinking of going up by train. A couple of questions for those of you that have traveled to tyndrum this way. Checking the route, did you have to cross glasgow to a different station? Also, did you take...

Re: MT500 Shorts alternatives
eBay Goretex trousers and cut them down. No stitching required either. Mine have a massive arse but I reckon going down a size they would be fine. £18, and the first pair of waterproof shorts that actually keep me dry.

Surely if you need somewhere else to carry it, you're already losing the weight benefit?

Anyone on this list who hasn't entered before - I've got 1:50k PDFs of both this year's and last year's routes on my Google Drive. PM me and I'll send you the link - it saves someone else repeating the same task.

Re: Highland Trail 2015
Anyone else Cairngorm Looping it three weeks beforehand? Is that the mass start? It will depend on my weekend with the kids, I'll be attempting an ITT of the route at some point on the run up though. Yep, it's the bank holiday weekend as well so the Monday is there for recovery purposes if you're a...

So, plans for Saturday then? I'll probably be burning off a hangover en route but will likely leave Balerno around 11 if we're saying 2:30 at a Peebles pub, allowing enough time for a Tesco supply run if necessary.

The one I bought stayed in my pack until the night of day 2, and wasn't worth carrying tbh.

At the risk of seeming like I'm obsessed, entries are now open.
I've put my name down for this and also the Cairngorms Loop three weeks prior. It makes for a perfect warmup event and a great race in its own right.

Re: link to a recent blog post: cairngorms loop
Excellent post there, and some lovely pictures. Coincidentally a mate and I binned a Cairngorms Loop attempt at the end of August at the Geldie - we stayed in the sumptuous cottage (a lot less grim than a bivi in the rain) and found the burn in spate the following morning so escaped out to Feshiebri...

Re: What weight is a fat bike?
Haven't got a clue what mine weighs, but if you're still up for riding to Inners next weekend you're welcome to have a shot. Unless I can be bothered to convert it to tubeless this week, it'll be stock spec which I think is low 30s.

Re: HTR Cairngorm loop link.
For flips sake don't give Alan Goldsmith ideas! Although you could eliminate the crappy west highland way bit of the current route.... That's a really good idea. A Blair Atholl start, Cairngorms Loop outer, leave the Loop at Feshiebridge, Laggan to Corrieyairack and then join the HTR. Do the HTR to...

Re: Winter Bivy- Scotland South East*
I don't know actually. I rode there and back on Friday night and there are several options. My outward route was Carlops by road and farm track to the A701, fire road through the forest towards Eddleston and then join the cross borders drove road into Peebles. Return I left the black just after the ...

Re: Critique my kit thoughts
Would you consider using the moonlite without a tarp? Yep. I started out that way with it, first night was in light snow in early December. I would be reluctant to use it in the heaviest of rain, but in those cases I'd be looking for some natural shelter before bedding down. It isn't overly wind pr...

Re: Critique my kit thoughts
If the Discovery Lite is big enough for you, and if you're shorter than Ian it will be (I'm taller and it fits me), then you should also consider the Moonlite if weight is of utmost importance. I used mine on the HTR and have used it on rainy bivi trips on its own without issue. Breathability isn't ...
