Re: SPOT GEN 3 GREEN SOS / HELP LIGHTS WHEN TURNING ON

Hi, here is the manual: https://www.findmespot.com/SPOT/media/Downloads/SPOT-Gen3/SPOT-Gen3-User-Guide.pdf On Page 5 it suggests this is part of the LED test sequence. Once the HELP and S.O.S. LEDs turn green, you will have approximately 5 seconds to complete step 2 and another 5 seconds to complete...

Re: Which GPS for battery life?

It is worth looking at how to improve battery life on any given model. I have a gaming etrex20 which gives me 20 hours on rechargeable. This is double from using default settings. Mainly the bright screen mode that takes the juice but suprisingly the rate of data plotting was a big factor.

FS: 9spd SRAM power links

I have 12 pairs for 9 speed chains. These are the things you use to close up a chain without any tools. Really good idea to carry some in case you need to fix a broken chain on the go. Bugger al use if you have only 10speed and 8speed chains. I'll post 6 pairs to the first two members who ask. Cost ...

Cheap rear rack for El Mariachi ?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap rear rack that would work with a Salsa El Mar? Doesn't need to be strong but does need to attach to more than the seat tube. The fall back is the specific Salsa rack at about £100 including the special seat clamp thingy. I just wondered if there was anything...

FS: Shimano Alfine 11 on ZTR crest wheel

I very quickly swapped the original Alfine 11 for a SS setup on my Whippet. The hub was great but the cable setup on the bike was rubbish. Then I started liking SS enough not to try re-routing the cables more effectively. So this has been hanging around for a while. I'm selling the rear wheel as a w...

Re: Obsessive brake bleeding?

Some brakes are known for allowing air in slowly leading to spongyness and finally no breaking performance. I have two acid juicy 5 that do that. Shimano seen bomb proof even at the cheap end. There might be a correlation between folk who are bleeding brakes weekly and those permanently slamming on ...

Re: Single Speed Chain Link

Cheers folks, yes the spring clip is what I have used so far. I was hoping for something like the power-link because they are a bit easier to fit when you are gibbering on t' moor. However, the spring clip type seem they should be more durable. I saw there are some 8 speed quick links and wondered i...

Single Speed Chain Link

Hello, I have years of experience of using quick links for connecting 9/10 speed chains. Products like Sram powerlinks etc work great. For single speed (e.g. 8 speed ) chains the standard offering tends to be the kind that has the two parts with a slide on faceplate. I'm not keen on these but suspec...

Re: BB200 2015 ... yes, already.

Firstly, thanks for trying evolve this great event Stu. It's easy to forget that this is quite a unique opportunity in the biking calendar. Both very hard but accessible are what makes it popular. So extending this makes great sense. 2014 saw many folk realise they are capable of much more than they...

Tubeless 29" Road Tyre recommendations

I'm after a tyre to use on a 29er wheel that I can put onto a bike for when I need to do road only miles (commute to work). Tubeless and fairly tough would be good.

Any recommendations?

If it makes you feel better I carried over 1kg of food I didn't use.

RE the saddle I looked at Make Halls winning Td setup and went with that. It is lovely. You know when you have a great saddle when you don't even think about it until someone mentions it. It's a WTB laser.

I'm still trying to work out how I can spend two days cursing for entering the BB and yet now very glad to have done it. It is this dangerous feeling that makes you enter the next year having chanted for 30 hours like a monk "must never put myself through this again" I'd like to claim the ...

The Star Inn is under new ownership and has undergone a full re-fit, so is worth a look. Otherwise it's Mach' or Llanidloes really. This would be good but alas the website says they haven't finished the kitchen. Unless you've heard otherwise (and their website is behind). Yes I'm at the schoo house...

Ian, your account is a valuable addition to the info available for this route. I wish I had it when I first attempted it. I think these last posts hit the nail on the head. If you don't know better you do the LL200 like you might a nice tour of the peaks or other long distance routes that aim for max satisfaction. The LL200 is a test. It is there if you want to challenge yourself physically and mentally. I didn't reali...
