Just returned from a few days in Krakow. Paid a sobering visit to Auschwitz & Birkenau camps.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

It's amazing. What's the history? It's an old cabin the slate workers probably used as a small shelter. There's about 8 of them either side of the quarry but the other are in a bad state. The quarry dates from 1840 to 1900, this one is higher up the incline so probably dates to the late 1800's. Reg...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Aye, looks very deluxe. Do you carry all the kit up every time, Jeff? Or does the hut now have some permanent fixtures (e.g. the grill)? Thanks. Yeah the grill and bottom grill are residents of the mountain now. I also left some more coal and firewood there on January 1st. I've a stash of firelight...

Well, after some umming and areing, it looks like I'm in :-bd Literally a last minute decision to make the most of the nice looking weather window on the 30th. The day was calm with a forecast of a clear calm night with some winds moving in at around 6am. So after me tea (a chinese) and after gettin...

Re: Todays ride

A pic from yesterday. I went out looking for a future bivvy spot after seeing a tasty pic on Geograph. This tree was growing in a spot marked as a cairn on the OS map. There were a few boulders in a ring around the tree and it looked pretty good....for a tree. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AB...

Not so much Cornwall but here's a few interesting 'shelters' from back in the day here in Eryri. The first one is probably a recent adaptation to an overhanging rock though. As per the norm, a few of us get together for the Global Fat Bike day thing and generally drink beer and chat gobbledigoo. I made it a solo effort on the Friday night as the weather was bang on. I warmed the cottage up for when the others arrived through Saturday afternoon. Some pics... https://lh3....

Re: Whats your trouser of choice?

I tend to wear trouser for most of the year, so.... In the past I've used the Gore (I think either) R3 or R5 trousers. There're basically designed for running but found them great for summer due to its very lightweight material. However the backside didn't last long due to riding a bike! Then moved ...

On Sunday I had a good old mooch around the Dorothea quarry in Snowdonia. As Reg would agree, it's a fantastic place to explore due to it's vast network of former industrial slate workings. Despite it being a World Heritage Site, there's plenty of bivvy spots off the tracks away from dog walkers. Dr...

Re: Traws - Eryri new North Wales route

Traws Eryri will only become the route it should be (will be) when long promised reforms in Welsh Government access legislation are delivered. But let’s just say that the secret squirrel version of the route has only been seen by half a dozen people 😄 If WG ever actually carry out the access reform...
