People who have signed up to Eventbrite will have received the actual route others might be sharing routes from the route I shared when I plotted it probably half cut last year :-)

About twice the distance then?

Re: #jennride 2022 28/29th of May

Surely if it's a gpx track that has actually been ridden and recorded then it'll show the "one true way"? I've spent some time in OSM tidying up when mapped tracks are inaccurate. Is the problem with folk/programs trying to create turn-by-turn routes from recorded tracks?

Re: #jennride 2022 28/29th of May

Does anyone have the gpx for it or is that in the emails  Colin... so is it gonna be a super hard ride this :o My understanding is that routing has been impacted by the number of fallen trees, somewhat limiting the options. I've seen a couple of photos/read some comments but other than that,...

At least it might still be there for the ride back though.

The bigger, heavier lock you have, the more attention you bring to the bike and the more you advertise its value.

Re: Locks, for commuting, superlight, strong and reliable...

A friend of mine wrapped most of his frame in black insulating tape when using it for commuting. Once scuffed up a bit in use it looked quite tatty but the frame was still perfect underneath.

Yep. Your bike only has to be less easy to steal/desirable compared to the one next to it.

Re: Hanging bikes by wheels

Mine are all hung up. Top and tailed. Been doing that for 20 years and never had any problems. In theory, suspension forks are better stored axle-high as the seals stay wet. I'm not sure it makes any difference in practice, unless they are being stored for a very long time. Some hydraulic brake syst...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

Never quite understood bikes getting 5 star reviews and then getting marked down by quite a bit on the value of the bike. Maybe I’m too black n white in my thinking but surely if a bike performs well, then it’s worth it But if another bike performs equally well (or even better) and is half the pric...

I guess the reality, as Dave notes, is the grass routes was free events done by the dedicated and as we move towards commercialisation [ whether to cover costs or make profit] there will be some resistance from those who remember when these hills were all free to ride with mates [ or grumpies as we...

I have one of them on my Van Nicholas Amazon #gradventourer. They're great posts. Mine must be 13 years old.

Having said that, I just wrap a piece of foam round dropper posts before strapping any bag on.

Re: Upper Deeside Tour

Hmm. I am expecting a couple of signs to appear in Abernethy forest this week, asking folk to avoid that lovely bit of singletrack that the Cairngorms Loop uses just after Forest Lodge, because of capers. In fact, I was asked to route the CL away from it. I approached ScotWays about this and, as luc...

Oh - you definitely have my attention on this one...

On your way to Loch Builg, what route did you opt for? I've a survey to complete from Inver - Ratlich - Carn Moine an Tighearn - Cullardoch - Loch Builg. I know the other route well enough as it's on the Cairngorms Loop.

For completeness... 2/3 scratched on Saturday. A combination of weather and navigation issues. Mike DeB soldiered on for 35 hours but needed some outside assistance. In contrast with yesterday afternoon, today has been sunny, dry and warm. A nice evening here at the moment too. The difference 24 hou...
