Re: HT550 2021

The idea of not allowing previous finishers to partake is quite interesting - given previous comments, I actually wonder whether the scratch rate would be lower? I was, if course, just being humorous but I guess it depends on what "success" looks like in Alan's eyes. I doubt it's having a 90+% comp...

Re: My kit's crap, spend my money for me.

I've said it many times but tent Vs bivvy shouldn't come down to weight. It's more of a lifestyle choice  The Lunar Solo / Cumulus 250 / Exped recommendation is very hard to fault. Personally I'd go for a Synmat 7 for year-round use. Also consider a quilt/bag combo as providing 4 seasons worth ...

Maybe Alan needs to re-think the selection criteria and start excluding previous finishers

As said, this was gone over in 2019. I also think that, for some who've already completed it, the goal is to do it faster and if that's not going to happen then why bother.

I use the the USE Ti posts and the only issue for me (if i am being a bit of a tart) is they are not black ... other than that, they are seat posts.
But if they were black they wouldn't match the frame

Re: HT550 2021

Yeah I'm thinking on taking a shelter that will allow a decent kip in crap weather. The good news is that there will be no midges. Still some frosts to come and lots over the last month or so so the little bleeders won't be out until June I suspect. :-bd There was a midge report from Angus yesterday.

I too have regularly experienced the "don't ding your bell at me" crowd.

I have a bulb horn on my wee singlespeed 26er. That never fails to raise a smile.

Watch for sizing. My current EX Platinum (one with pit zips) is a medium but I ordered a yellow Reign and had to send it back because it was massive.

Re: sleeping problems and cures ?

Worrying about it is likely making it worse. TBH, I've survived on 4-5 hrs sleep every night for the past 30-odd years, so I'm maybe not the best person to be commenting  If I go to bed early (for me that's any time before midnight) then I'll toss and turn for ages. I prefer going to bed when I...

The human voice can be as soft or as loud as you want and weighs nowt. I also thinks it's a lot less strident than a bell which many folk find objectionable.

Re: Bluetooth headphones

I have some Taotronics BH-07s. I only ever use them when I'm stopped for the night so no challenge about dealing with wind noise. They charge off a USB cable so I'd just top them up off a power pack occasionally if required.

Re: Cooking pots query

Ultimately if you want even heat distribution then you are going to need something with a substantial (i.e. heavy) base. That's just thermodynamics at work. Also "point" flames like those from the Pocket Rocket style stoves don't help so consider something with a broader flame so the heat is distri...

Get a nice carbon one Tony... what thickness??
Carbon posts (especially thicker ones) can be very harsh. Ti is much more comfy.
