Re: Modern caliper brakes ... how bad?
Campy Super Record 11 on my road bike. Very powerful and great feel, but still not a patch on discs thanks to those 700x23's. If I ever get another roadie it'll have discs on it, so it'll probably be one of the lighter CX bikes.

Re: Anyone got Mavic cross one wheels
Might be a long shot could be the dish of the wheel, especially if it's the back one. Mavics are usually pretty good brand new - even the "value" ones - but Id go get it checked at a shop.

Re: WTD: Raleigh 20 - with or without basket
Never underestimate the Raleigh 20. A mate and I did the Nove Colli granfondo in Italy in 2012. Halfway down the Barbotto we stopped for a photo and watched in dazed awe as a maniac on a Raleigh 20 shot past us at around 50kph. His race number was attached to the basket.

Re: Tarp Advice
The tarps you've listed are all PU coated which means they're all heavier than they need to be. PU doesn't pack that well and it 'hangs on to water' too, so it doesn't dry that quickly. Too true. Been using a DD solo tarp for the past two years and it takes FOREVER to dry. Wouldn't be an issue if y...

Does this count? My boy Finn relaxing after our 30km towpath ride to a campsite. Not exactly the Scottish Highlands but we will get there one day though he won't be lugging an iPad, that massive sleeping mat, inflatable pillow and camp chair. The Quavers will probably be non-negotiatble. Sadly even ...

Always good to have some goals in life and cycling. I've a few: - like most I'm aiming to do the one night a month thing properly this coming year and I think the secret will be to give my long-suffering wife more notice rather than: "Hi, good day at work? Kids are bathing/eating/sleeping and I...

H&M jacket even cheaper on here http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/if-you-want-a-cheap-down-jacket I just ordered one of these. Have my suspicions as to its quality and inevitably to the source of the down, but you never know, it could be the bargain of the year or end up at the top of the...

Your best of 2013?
Let's see your best bits of 2013. Ive had a few nice trips this year. One real highlight that I will remember forever was my daughter, 8-year-old Belle, asking if she could sleep under a tarp one night on a summer camping trip to France and Italy. So while the ManChild and I glamped it in the big bu...

I'd love one of these as Im getting too old and soft to sit on logs anymore, Trouble is it weighs 500g and I have no idea how to fit it into an already overstuffed frame bag. But I still want one. Edit - dunno why the pic didn't show so trying again - its an Alite Monarch Butterfly chair. Thankfully...

Sounds brilliant. Have done a few overnight trips with the kids on their bikes, but only along canal paths and back lanes to campsites. They'd be well up for a trip to the Welsh countryside.

This happened to me on a quick overnighter in the woods two weeks ago. It was -2 and I was using kit Ive used in far colder weather but was I was freezing. I'd had no booze and was properly hydrated, was wearing what has been more than adequate clothes etc etc etc. I'm putting it down to getting old...

Re: How do you get your consent form signed (by the missus)?
I do what Mrs mPolo says - spend time earning the right to bugger off and leave my wife with the kids/house for an extended period once or twice a year and for a night in the woods every month or so. She's glad to be rid of me for a bit, mostly, but I make sure the fridge/pantry is stocked, the iron...

I'd be interested in thoughts on the Mucky Nutz guards as they are a potential Xmas pressie for my son. They get very mixed reviews, so some thought out comments would be greatly appreciated. Postie brought me some some On One Fleegle bars and a matching 80mm stem today. There's are going on my Inbr...
