Re: Bivvy a month 2014 thread.

Made it 2 for 3 this week - quick night out off the Ridgeway near Wendover. It's not exactly the Highlands. Off to the Peaks next week to ramp up the monthly average. Fingers crossed my new Borah Gar bivvy bag arrives in time but I strongly suspect I'll still be wrestling with my Hunka.

Australians have a lot to answer for* including saying "mole" when they mean to say "moll", which is only funny in the context of this thread

Light, cheap (ish) and does the job brilliantly.
Right, that's it. I'm sold. Just ordered, one Borah M90 long wide bivvy bag and I'm already impatient for the postman's knock?

Thanks for that everyone. I've emailed Borah to check the length and wide of their long-wide M90 bag and suspect I'll be ordering one shortly.

I wish I never sold my Thorn 853 Audax to fund a lightweight and very stiff alu/carbon race thingy. It was the most comfortable and versatile road bike Ive ever owned.

Lightweight bivvi bag for the larger gentleman?

Morning campers. I've finally had it with my regular sized Alpkit Hunka. It does the job ok, but it's too small for me - 6'2" and 90kg - and I really want something with a zip so I can get in and out more easily. Id also prefer if it was closer to 300g than 500 and packs down small. I usually u...

Re: Other (associated) interests?

It just occurred to me that Ive got a very nice fly fishing rod up in the loft which Ive not used for a couple of years. A mate gave it to me when he took his family to live in Colorado - I gave him a bike to get fit. He gave me the rod to help me de-stress … Anyways, Im thinking I might drag it dow...

Brilliant - thanks everyone and Stu for the GPX file. Suspect 60 miles might be a bit ambitious so will look to lower my sights a bit. Cheers. :-bd

Tell me about the Peak District NP?

Somehow Ive managed to miss riding in the Peak District over the years, but am thinking of heading up in the first week of April. So Im looking for suggestions for a two-night route 50-60 miles each day that takes in at least a few of the must see things in the national park. Any thoughts?

Im paranoid about running out of water as Im a sweaty beggar and I dehydrate real fast. I carry 2-3L in an Osprey backpack depending where I am and one day Im going to figure out a way to carry it in my frame bag. When it comes to blagging refills I have no shame - cafes, police stations, post offic...

Weighs 1050g according to road.cc but from the photo looks like you need to carry a large wooden platform to attach it to  Actually, I quite like the look of the thing. Wonder how long it takes to set up. http://road.cc/sites/default/files/imagecache/preview_500/images/5%20innovations/Taipei%2...

Re: Handlebar bags

I use a Wildcat harness and a 20l Alpkit Extra Dual, the one that opens at both ends. I like the extra space this gives as it means I don't have to spend 10 mins wrestling my sleeping bag and mat into it, plus it also takes a down jacket and a few other light n squishy things if needed. The double o...

What gairym said up there ^^^ Failed. Don't imagine I'm getting out tonight either, not with the Comptroller General at a...

Anyone else like good old fashioned navigation? This year Im trying to do all my trips with maps and a compass without resorting to a GPS. I'm hopeless though and tend to take way longer to get anywhere complicated.

Nice work that. Is it from a couple of those aluminium beer bottles? I made a few similar ones - cut up the bottles and pressed them together with a car jack under the work bench, but I could never get the top to roll down as neatly as you've done there. :-bd

Re: How Did You Get Into Bikepacking?

I got into bikepacking to cut the weight of the gear I was carrying on long tours. I used to do a lot of long distance road/gravel touring - Canada, the US, lots of South East Asia, parts of Europe and Australia. Then one weekend about three years back I was in deepest darkest Kent having lugged my ...

Tend to go for an a-frame as its quick and easy, and if its raining or windy or both I'll just drop one end and tuck the corners under. The tarp has a line at each corner and I carry six others, including two long ones, which are great if I can find a nice thick drystone wall or an old barn or somet...

Yep, Ive got the exact same ones and this morning squeezed them onto my road bike. The howls of derision from my club mates could be heard in the next county. It was 1 degree when we set out and it was 1 degree when we got back three hours later. Everyone moaned about cold hands except smug little m...

Those Mudhugger guards are the dogs bollox, especially the rear. My son has one on his bike and basically won't ride without it if he's not racing. I'm waiting for the 29er version of the rear to come into stock. In the meantime, the postie brought one of these to my place today (or rather I wrestle...
