Re: Winter over shorts

I use Gore Paclites. Had them for years and still going strong. Not overly baggy but very comfortable. Not the cheapest on the market though.
I had a pair of Altura attack and they did not remain waterproof for very long.

Double Sleeping bag or quilt

Hi All, Slightly off topic from bike packing but you may have some good ideas. When camping with the missus we use an old double sized sleeping bag. It is getting pretty old and shabby and is the size of a small fridge when packed up. I am looking to upgrade to a new bag or quilt. Needs to be suitab...

Re: Wheel and Tyre advice for Singular Gryphon build

I ran my Gryphon with various different tyres, cyclocross to full off road versions and settled on Continental X-Kings 2.2. I doubt you could get some 2.4 rubber in there as the X-Kings filled up the frame pretty well. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5332/9442860353_40d4336e84_z.jpg Gryphon - Day out...

Re: Advice needed for carrying meds

Very interesting reading that Jerry Gore article. As a Type 1 diabetic myself, its easy to let the disease take a hold of you and control your life. At the end of the day it is basically understanding what you are consuming, what you need to do to counteract that and how exercise affects those scena...

Watched 'Blackfish' documentary the other day about killer Whales in captivity and how SeaWorld covered up certain issues.
Great documentary, but don't want to ever go to SeaWorld.

This has now moved onto STW, it would appear for them though it is concerns about people modifying them so they are now exceeding 16mph and breaking the law.

Re: Uncomfortably numb. Riding and hand nerve damage.

I noticed these issues when I got my first fully rigid bike, on longer rides I would lose the sensation in my fingers for upto 24 hours. I always felt it was vibration through the bike and not anything to do with postion of hands, grips or gloves as not matter what postion I moved to it remained. An...

That's a great idea. Never heard of the Eurotunnel service.
Sounds quite reasonable.
Being in Essex that sounds like a future trip.

Quick local test of kit

Had a little short ride to test out my kit. I recently lost it all to a rodent so had to replace about 90% of it. Set off from home and road to the local woods and found a cosy spot. It was the night of the really heavy winds so was a touch on the windy side later that night. Made a very quick edit ...

Death of my bikepacking kit - Vermin

So the other night I heard a shuffling around in my loft. Brilliant I though 'Rat, mouse or squirrel?'... So the next day I head up into the loft to see if I can see anything. The sight that greeted me was horrific. I keep my bikepacking kit all together in my sleeping bag sack in the loft. The litt...

Ive run tubeless Race Kings for the last few years as well. Seals first time, every time and had no issues with leaking sidewalls.
Run them on Mavic SLR and Crank Brother Rims.

It was absolutely freezing here in Essex yesterday so only went for a quick spin to get some fresh air.
It was so cold that my leg hairs froze!

Re: Lakeland 125

Thinking of doing a Lakeland route next year and was wondering if you had a GPX of the route? I wouldn't mind comparing it to the 200 to see what the difference is.
I think the 200 will be too much for the time we have but 125 would be just right.

Re: Anyone tried a Gryphon?

From what you are saying would it not be better to go for a standard bike, ie. a hard tail which will give you a bit more comfort when riding off road, it will also be a bit more forgiving if your off road skills need some work?

Re: Anyone tried a Gryphon?

I owned a Gryphon for around a year and loved it. Gutted to have got rid of it. I ran it with 2.2 Conti X-Kings and also Cyclocross tyres and found it a very versatile bike. Like Stu said if you are used to ride a rigid bike then it is great off road. I road it around all my local trails and on root...

Greta effort by Chicken Legs coming in under his 25 day target!
Apparently adrenaline had kicked in and he wasn't tired so was last seen heading to Walmart for food!
I personally would be sleeping for the next few days!

Good luck Andrew!
I did the WRT with him last year and I am confident he will kick butt on the TD.
Looking at his Strava he has been clocking up the miles and he has been spotted a few times whizzing around Essex on a fully ladden bike!

I use Zinc tape. By a roll cheap from Boots. Been great on long distance walks and runs. Apply before going out on prone areas.
Always have a roll handy.
