Re: Solstice ... that old chestnut again.

have always wanted to ride all the daylight hours of the summer solstice, and equally all the dark hours of the winter solstice maybe this year I'll do it :-) I prefer it the other way around! Did an all-nighter last summer solstice but we were let down badly by the weather. Had we done it ju...

Rab Sawtooth Jacket-Opinions

I am looking to buy a lightweight softshell jacket and think the Rab Sawtooth might fit the bill. Anyone got any opinions on this or other recommendations? It does not need to be cycle specific as whatever I buy will be worn off the bike too, but I would prefer hoodless. Don't want it to be too heav...

Only got mine the other day so can't comment on whether the ventilation actually works well in use, but when pitched correctly the vents do hold open nicely with the struts in place.

All zips are one way.

Re: Multitool recommendation

I'm starting to think that a selection of seperate tools, handpicked to fit your (and bikes) requirements could be lighter and more useable than the majority of multitools. I have heard the storys about motorcycle trials guys re-building their bikes so that every fixing that could be tool free was,...

Re: Stanforth Bikes - urban expedition?

Steel frames at the cutting edge have got better (853, 931, 953) but I'm not sure that a lugged 631 frame is any better than a '90's 531. In theory it should be better than the original '80's conquests as the butting profiles of the tubes should be more in line with what is required for an MTB. Depe...

29" x 5" would actually be a horrible thing to ride ... I shudder to think.

My logic says this....

26 x 2.3 is good

26 x 5 is better

29 x 2.3 is very good

Surely 29 x 5 will be at least reasonable.

FW Evans were involved with the Original Saracen conquests I think, which of course the Cranes took up Kilimanjaro, giving us the Saracen Kili. I think that is heritage that can be tapped into for a bike-packing/ATB bike, rather than the old CTC style tourers. Being in on the ground floor of mountai...

Bear in mind the firestarters are suspension corrected for 100mm. Fargo forks and enablers aren't, so the frame you are using will play a part in what is suitable. ;)
