Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
Didn't want to leave November too late but was suffering from lethargy or half a sore throat or something... tried for the 3 previous nights, but comfort and warmth got the better of me... But Wednesday I got a good ride in, in the afternoon, and that brushed off the cobwebs... so at 9:30pm off I we...

Re: Todays ride
Bob, what I've done quite a few times, is to get to the top, (this is about a kilometre past Mossdale, and ST from the hut) over the fence where the BW becomes a FP , then some rideable but trickyish ST down to the good track... then over to Scarhouse Res etc. and over and down to Arkleside...

Forgot to mention too about the creaking: I cleaned the bike and put a fresh (Sram XX1) chain on... the chain I took off was XX1, and both chains fairly new . No creaking going uphill under load ! (I swap chains after every bike clean, using the soaking in wax method) Can’t understand why the creaki...

Re: Bottom bracket drag
Re-defined... thanks for the info... Would you say that a B.B. only spinning 4 times (and mine spins about 2!) as opposed to spinning 14 times, has any significant effect on your output ? (I.e. much reduced wattage) Taking it in Monday to LBS, my mechanic there (who races National XC) reckons it’s d...

"Think less about the miles and more about what it was ridden in, or left ridden in for extended periods of time." Forgot to mention that there is no play in this BB, whereas on my other bike where the BB spins for 13 seconds, there is a bit of play... Be interesting to see what my LBS say...

Scott would not honour the warranty on my cracked seat stay (Scott Scale 900, carbon frame) but I got a new frame at a discounted price, and my lbs forewent (is that a word  ?) their margin...(I’m a good customer) Under load there is a bit of a creaking rumbling noise, it’s not coming from the...

August BAM teetering at the edge, must be the greyness, cba even getting the bike out... However I kept looking at the Moors100 and downloaded the gpx, and thought I'll have to do that sometime (rode there about 10 years ago and it was brilliant), so sent off an email on the Thursday (You're IN), dr...

Re: Garmin Dakota bike mount recommendation
My Garmin Dakota 20 Mount got worn after some time (it’s the two rails which get worn, they’re about 2 inches long). On Aidan Hardings web blog he used araldite to solve the problem. I did that and it works. Mix the araldite (you buy it with two types of gluey stuff, mix the two together), then smea...

23rd July, getting a bit anxious... not done it yet ! So managed to get my act together yesterday and set off in tropicalish temperatures at 3pm, bike and kit at 40lbs. Having done a bit of reading about the Irwell Sculpture Trail, where it said it was designed for walkers and cyclists, it sounded g...

It’s pretty simple really but will take a few more years I’m afraid.... Remember when after going to the pub on a Friday night you had to put all your clothes in the wash and ‘defumigate’ ? Unthinkable now (unless you sit outside in the sun for your pint  ) Well, bikes and vehicles do not m...

I had big problems there, almost going round in circles until I realised the Dakota had frozen - just the worst place to freeze maybe it too got confused...
I ended up on that horse trot thingy, sawdust, worse than riding through sand
Had to do a ‘hard reset’ of the Dakota...
