Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...

If anyone wants me, I'll be fitting gears to the Kite... Barrington. Fitting gears. S**T the bed. the route must be a beast  Ha, well, if you think you can pedal 36:18 around Mid-Wales' finest gravel tracks, be my guest. I've tried. It's hard ;) By gears, I am limiting myself to only 8 thoug...

Re: Highland trail 550!!

Ive run in to the fisherfield bothy before. From memory the new route is considerably more rideable than the original.

I'm going to see how I feel over the next few days but would love to do the HT550. Just need to think about whether six months time is too soon...

Re: Highland trail 550!!

I notice the GPX file is named 560... Despite the pain and suffering of earlier this year, this might be a challenge too big to resist! And when I imported it into menorymap it says 915km which is 567 miles anyway. I think we all know to take any quoted distance with a pinch of salt :) and in any c...

Highland trail 550!!

I just happened to notice earlier that the new extended route is now online on the HT site. The Northern extension looks good. Plus it now goes through lochinver home of a genuinely world class pie shop. Contenders will need to time their arrival for when the shop is open. It could be a devastating ...

Re: The BB 200 Thread

Around one of the reservoirs I thought I ought to stop and eat something. I rode towards a large rock to sit on. On closer inspection the "rock" had horns & mooed. Cheers for the pic :D Are we having fun yet? Haha I think we saw that "rock" too - a white one? did caus...

Re: The BB 200 Thread

Have just unpacked my bike and laid everything out on the floor. Been really brutal, plus calculated calories I was carrying. 1.2 kg lighter now... If you get hungry, don't look at me ;) I'm fairly sure that by the time I get hungry you'll be long finished anyway! Maybe you could ride back down the...

I've just received something similar: http://www.xcracer.com/content/products/thumb_1375805540.jpg A bit anxious about the 2 n/m limit on the fasteners and their ability to hold onto my Six-Pack when bouncing done a rocky descent! Other than that I like "tank turret" look and it clears th...

Pete has carbon frame fork and rims from flyxii.com they look good to me and their prices are keen to say the least. He'll be at the bb with it and I'm sure would be happy to talk about it.

Oh, and Id like a dynamo hub and front light. No batteries and charge your GPS as you ride.

Agree about shimano brakes. I was a total hope fanboy until the latest shimano brakes. They are stunningly powerful. Genuinely 1 finger levers.

Oops. I've got a spare V bright magicshine you can borrow. But my experience of getting stuff from Germany in the post is that it often arrives quicker than a uk based supplier.

Fingers crossed

And if you are planning to do this in one hit you're carrying too much! Of course if you're stopping then don't listen to me. Looks like I will have around this much on the bike and I'm hoping not to stop. Not sure what I can leave behind, quite a lot of what I'm carrying is food though. I'm a bit ...

For those who wish to see them I just spotted that someone has posted some pictures of a trip today from Rhayader. May be useful for a conditions check (or fuelling further panic - it looks a bit damp)
