Re: Cairngoms Outer loop
Cheers for all the nice comments, I hadn't checked the thread for a while.
The camp spot picture is at the head of loch Insh, just along from the Watersports centre (on the beach below the road). It's slightly off route but handy for the pub in Kincraig :D

Hmm, the coastal survival school they advertise further down that page is showing a bowl of some pretty juvenile brown crab - I wonder if they realise its actually a criminal offence take under size fish/shellfish from the sea?

Cairngoms Outer loop
We did the outer loop last week, weather was fantastic so thought I'd share photos from the trip https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/wwfKCL3zs_EQvnLL4DfltX1hsod4EG841LST5J4u-2GoXYLmamz4J6n53cJU4LUXlkLKuxYJhAczH90quKminIYDLMNAB7to1hT4eWxBR4xdOCrkaLMYFNAuIIGOeobfcYb6GX4EAuWPTM3fgMpy0YcPE-rvexoubORR164ua...

Re: Two man tents
Another vote for the Big Agnes copper spur, I've got the 3 man version and it's humongous. Unlike many ultralight 3 man tents it comfortably fits 3 adults with standard air mats so I'd image the 2 man version is equally comfortable for 2. The 3 man is only 1.8 kg on the scales and it's hard to belie...

Re: Which air mat?
I've had bad experiences with multimat - the two I've had both failed where the material is glued around the valve.
The Robens one looks interesting as it's insulated and has a flat valve which is a big improvement imo.

Took delivery of a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 3 at the weekend - someone here had posted them on sale from Sports Pursuit so picked one up hoping this could be a great way to get the Mrs and daughter into bikepacking (its usually just me and the boy). If my scheme to get the girls involved doesn't wor...

Re: Scottish Paths - Maintenance / Repair / Upgrade?
That's a shame - it was probably the only real techy descent on the whw, was a good challenge when loaded up with bike packing gear.
Would have preferred them to spend the money on the north eastern section of loch Lomond :D

Re: Southern uplands way rideable?
Pretty much the same route we took except we made the mistake of staying on the SUW from chalk memorial bothy down into Sanquhar instead of taking the forest road - we thought it would be a decent descent but turned out to be classic Galloway bogfest 4 days is a damn good effort considering the terr...

Re: "mainstream" brand bags
If you're just looking to try bike packing out then you can't really go wrong with an alpkit airlock on the bars and the tapered airlock on the rear. This setup has lasted me well for 2-3 trips a year for the last 4 years and cost about £30.

I've got a revelation and with the foot box zipped up I can't imagine it being noticeably colder than the sewn version? I think the zip is a fantastic idea as it lets me use the quilt even on warm nights (mine is the -1 C version)

I really miss my G12, I replaced it with an EOS M which I got at a bargain price - it takes much better quality pictures but its much bulkier to use, doesn't have the flip out LCD and just isn't as intuitive:simple to use (despite having a touch screen lcd)

I haven't kept up to speed with electronic shifting - can you set a cadence and it will automatically shift to maintain the cadence? not that I am aware of Wow, so the only benefit is slicker shifting? I had assumed a big benefit from going electronic would be so you could make it intelligent/adapt...

2. Yes - used mainly for frequent Pentlands rides, bikepacking and occasional trail centre
3. I'm planing to get a new full suss and use the parts from the bandit to build up my old ragley mmmbop
