AT4s... I loved them. It's like being exposed to something which has an effect that crops up 20 years or so later as an odd affliction

Re: Dynamo Light of choice - fork mounted gravel use mid range

Just like the waterproof thread, I'll second James' suggestion. I've got a Revo and the Edelux, the latter has been fine for road/bridleway bumbling, despite clipping the occasional low branch/bramble and once taking a bat to the face. I'll second your experience of a bat in the face, I had somethi...

Re: Dynamo Light of choice - fork mounted gravel use mid range

Edelux II is an excellent light, fork mount is perfect height for it also. The beam pattern or shape is its real strength for roads and wider byways (for me as a rider as well as oncoming traffic) but it puts less light above waist height than a torch beam off-road light so you don't see low branche...

Re: Spotted in Smiths today ...

(ok maybe a bit of generalisation) Just a bit  I can see why some don't align with MTB. With MTB marketing so often at the Redbull Rampage or MBUK "Attack The Trail!" end of things I can see why the middle-ground of gravel-ish XC riding has drawn more from road and CX culture than ...

Is the inov8 mud claw out of budget? Pretty much standard in the running club for mixed terrain off-road Useful thanks - also looking for some off-road running shoes. Will see if I can try a pair somewhere. Jumping in on your thread here Shafiq.. thanks, had been looking recently also. Any opinions...

Re: Heavier Duty "Packable" Jacket

Makes a lot of sense - it doesn't get under your chin and irritate you. Lowe Alpine used to do a fleece with a zip that angled up to the collarbone for the same reason. Also means the zips on different layers aren't aligned. For sure, I just struggle with non-symmetrical stuff. Like a bike? : ) I h...

Re: Spotted in Smiths today ...

Perhaps you only need count how many 'is this route suitable for a gravel bike' comments you see on the internet to know that the average gravel bike is a limiting factor for the average rider. It probably is. I think the lighter weight and drop bars suggest an easier ride but the reality off-road ...

Re: Spotted in Smiths today ...

I do find it somewhat sad (only a little) that within the mainstream, bikepacking is now considered something you do on a gravel bike or dare I say, even a road bike rather than a mountainbike. Why am I bothered? Mainly because that shift becomes a limit on how far off the beaten track people can (...

I met Tim Field on a road in Wales last week, a road I'd only taken by chance 10mins earlier. Not sure if he's on here often but I know him from the TNR and RSR rides. Felt like a bit of a coincidence.

Cracking trip James How did your nav work? Did you know where you wanted to go and made it up, or were you using GPS (scrolling in and out of the map or using it for the route) Cheers Ben. Remembered the WRT a few years back as I retraced a bit of the route we took there. I had a Garmin with my rou...

Re: First long ride on drops and my hands are screwed...

I think moving the saddle back takes the weight off your hands not forward. This is it, in basic terms, for seated riding - assuming you're not changing the bar/stem and general fit yet. It's more about balancing your weight over the BB rather than shortening the saddle to bar reach. If you sit in ...

Re: Tom! Pidcock!

Got to say, I thought seeing racers launching off that drop was great for XC racing in general. There's a shot of VDP's crash with (I think) Pidcock touching down totally bottomed out and tyres squashed, right behind him. There is no way I'd be going off that drop without the board in the gap :) and...

Re: Wales ride 2021

Thanks for the + comments 👍 Andy I'm 6' and it's ok for me, same width and angle as the Bearpaw I'd say although I've only used the BP a few nights. Using the side tie-outs on the Gatewood does help. Not a lot of space to sit up in it and faff when the fabric's damp but it's fine for what it is. Stu...

Can you imagine the testosterone fuelled twattery on display. To be fair that's big part of why I stopped doing road sportives and they were only a tenner or so at the time. I think blokes in general are a bigger problem than the event cost or format :) Edit to add, thinking of WRT or similar easy ...
