Re: Recommend me a quilt
Last Q .. 250g or 350g fill, for 2 quilts from the same brand with 850FP down? 4 deg comfort Vs ~1 deg comfort it seems. 100g weight difference isn't a decider. FWIW I don't have much of my own insulation but I also don't like to sleep too warm, so my concern with a 350 is that it'll be too warm for...

Re: Recommend me a quilt
Thanks Jase, Sha, YGH and Scott .. Looks like a Cumulus 250 with a bit of extra fill is a good option. Was tempted by a well-priced TR Vesper 32 in the sale but at 4 deg comfort it might not be much better than what I have aside from the reduced faff of any quilt. I was a bit wary of a bag rated to ...

Re: Missing the point?
Which begs the question, if you’re following a GPX, especially if a GPX someone else has made for you, is it an adventure in the pure sense of adventure? It may be a challenge or a test of endurance but that’s not quite the same thing as an adventure, right? Can adventure be in mind and not reliant...

Re: Missing the point?
If an inexperienced punter gets to equate 'adventure' with an enterprise that carries no risk they might find they are not then properly prepared when they sign up for an adventure which actually is an adventure and end up getting into difficulties. So what we've then done is facilitated a problem ...

Re: Missing the point?
Nah, just the opposite, it's just left a trail (ho ho) of confusion in its wake. Up is down and down is up. Or possibly sideways. Goodness knows what yer visitor centre punter makes of it. Chessington World of Adventures, Go Ape Adventure Park, adventure playgrounds etc .. plenty of similar named f...

Re: Technical question
Agreed Steven. I'd want the fork dimensions before starting to draw the frame, or I'd work on the fork first if it's steel / made to spec rather than bought-in carbon.

Re: Missing the point?
These routes might not meet someone's definition of adventure but like it or not, 'an adventure trail' or 'adventure/gravel' means more people understand what it is. MTB has got so wrapped up in radness that another way to describe pleasant off-road terrain seems to have come about.

Re: Technical question
+/-10mm on a road fork with no frame adjustment isn't something I'd be happy with but it may work ok. I've tried it on one of my bikes and didn't like the result. I have got a road frame that I intended for either 370 or 375mm forks, everything was specced with that in mind to begin with though.

Re: Folding Bikes - Experiences..
I have2 folders, a Brompton 2SL with SON lighting and a 20" Tern/Dahon that's Ridgeback branded, it has a Nexus 7 hub which is really good on a bike like this. Despite not folding down as small as the Brompton the Tern design is a much better bike for any distance, my pick when I used to ride a...

Re: Recommend me a quilt
Yes James, absolutely couldn't fault it. I have a Cumulus 150 and this is made from what felt like identical material, so absolutely lovely. Packs down to nowt and has the usual straps at the back so good fit. The only negative was slow delivery (a few weeks, but they did warn about that) and was l...

This is Stu's introduction to tarps - https://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/ ... rs-lovely/, it's on the first page of eight if you search for "tarp" in the news and reviews section. (I get a 404 error for all the images so you'll have to imagine what he's writing about) The Asymmetric H...

Thanks jBay, pobably a bit warm for me unfortunately, would have jumped at that if it was a 0-4 deg range version.jBay wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 4:06 pm https://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpB ... hp?t=24440
Only selling as I want an even wider one as a larger carbon unit.

Re: Missing the point?
Something that's probably applicable to the other recent thread on Adventure™, but I recently attended one of the "Reframing Mountain Biking" events. A common theme in the discussions (and also to some extent on here) is that the MTB portrayed in the media (especially advertising) is gene...

Thanks Phil. Paul who rode WRT with me this weekend has a Thermarest quilt bought fairly recently, it looks good inc the footbox shape. Not sure of the spec but it looked a lot comfier than my kit.
Borah bivi looks good, midge resistance appeals and they don't seem expensive for what they are?

Recommend me a quilt
After some quit tips please to help avoid expensive mistakes. All in all I need a less restrictive sleep system. I realised on the WRT (what a great weekend that was, thanks Stu + Dee!) that I only sleep well in a bivi if I'm tired from a long day's riding and these days I like a more exploring and ...

here's an example of how good the industry / media are .... I met a bloke the other day who was selling his hardtail mountainbike and buying a gravel bike so he "could go bikepacking" He's probably embracing roadpackin', the freedom of the lanes and byways. Sorry, I mean Road-Packing (TM)...
