FS: BikePack.eu Seatpack
This is the one I bought a couple of weeks back from here http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2162 while thinking that a two strap Viscacha was never going to turn up. It is as per the original advert but a little cleaner, and I would add very well made. if it wasn't for...

Re: Wanted: Revelate Viscacha Seat Pack
As my Mum always says, "Everything comes to he who waits," and she is right again :) Unfortunately, I forgot her saw on impatience and bought a used BIkePack (Poland) one the other week. At the moment I am trying to persuade myself that one of each is good, but my heart isn't in it (yet) A...

Re: Wanted: Revelate Viscacha Seat Pack
The double strap is a proven fit on the long travel Thudbuster; does the single strap fit the long travel or only the short travel? The old Thudbuster specific design had only one strap. You are probably right about that, but the two strap fits the long travel Thudbuster so perhaps the original was...

Re: Any POSITIVE experiences of Alfine11 hubs?
That was my first approach (and I suspect how it's 'supposed to work' - tho Shimano are very specific about the '8.5mm' measure in the fitting instructions) but it always seemed to shift after/during a ride. Loctiting the adjuster screw only sorted it for a bit longer... :-( Getting the measure as ...

Re: Any POSITIVE experiences of Alfine11 hubs?
Hi Gari... a steel rule & a whole bunch of bu****ation with a couple of spanners on the cable end clamp is my favoured method. Getting that 8.5cm measurement right on the 11 seems to be the critical setting (and done with the rubber 'crud cover' thingee at the end of the cable in 'relaxed' posi...

Re: Bikepacking - where's it heading?
So as bikepackers do we all have the love of the land ? I had that well before becoming a cyclist or even a walker. I've always been fascinated by the landscape; man's impact on it, and what it contains. I even managed to work it into a history degree at a polytechnic. Probably comes from enjoying ...

Re: Bikepacking - where's it heading?
i think the possibility of someone being prosecuted for sleeping/walking/cycling on someone elses land is very very remote. can you imagine the phone call from a irate scottish landowner to the local old bill. 'there are 2 cyclists asleep on the side of my mountain, will you come and arrest them an...

Re: Bikepacking - where's it heading?
So, things have certainly come a long way in the last five years or so, which makes me wonder what the next five may bring ... anyone got any thoughts on where we're heading? I hope that we are heading for a Scottish/Scandinavian Right to Roam type law. There is occasional evidence of friction betw...

Can you explain what the differences in mindset are? I'm very interested in this thread because I am moving from cycle camping to bike packing.s8tannorm wrote: I think there's a difference in mindset between bikepacking and off road touring.

Re: Route planning, how do you do yours?
How do you work out your long distance routes. Using OS 1:50 000 scale for reference I transfer off road paths onto a road map. I used to use OS 1:250 000 maps that also showed topography but they don't seem to make them any more. This is an AA 1:300 000 scale of Scotland which I'm slowly filling i...

I did one way to Fort William from West Midlands a few weeks ago and it was about £190 first class, but it was on my list of things to do before I die. Now it's done I wouldn't bother again, but I slept well :) I fear the only way with bikes and trains is to play the system. A folding bike or a bike...

I overheard three conversations that started with, "Do you know Stuart of Bear Bones .....?" Two of them were by the dmo bike although I am not sure if that is significant. There's a legend being built :D

Re: Exped Syn/Down Mats?
If got a Downmat and a Neoair. Both are the short versions but that is near full length for me. My feeling is that the Downmat is a little warmer than the Neoair but because it is bulkier I haven't used it since buying the Neoair early last year. I've had the Downmat for four years. The only cold ca...
