Re: As promised - blog content.

I had the 1st November one which I see now was a pre warning for the MLD interview. Sorry about that. I'll stop panicking now. Another interesting couple of articles, thanks. I like wood burners but when you wake up early and want a cup of tea before getting out of the sleeping bag and from under she...

Re: As promised - blog content.

Have I seen this before the email notification goes out? If not, for the first time, I haven't had the notification. Strip of rubber as a starter for all weathers; Raymondo Mears, I think. If, however, you are a dual use, weight weeny you'd have to think of something else to use it for that it would...

Re: Bear Bones newsletter - not getting it?

Thanks for the second part of the Rig7 rigging guide. That was very useful.
I made a silnylon tarp a few years ago but it is exactly half the size of the Rig7 and doesn't give enough cover. Iirc I paid over £20 for the material alone which makes the Rig7 a bargain.

Sorry to stray off topic.

Wonderful stuff.. thanks for the scans. edit to add, where did you get that from? Wearable luggage like a fly-fishing jacket, interesting idea or was he just showing off? ) He did use the stuff he showed but there must have been an element of showing off and seeing how far he could push things. What? The Adventure Cycling book ... think I turned a copy up on Amazon.
Who is the author and publisher, please?
I've got Adventure Cycling in Britain by Tim Hughes but it's 1978 and different photos.

Re: History lessons

At the risk of side-tracking myself from what I'm actually looking up, I wonder when the first bivi-bike rides started? I've read about the early climbers riding out to crags for the weekend and sleeping in hedges along the way but who knows where basic sleeping kit + bikes for longer rides first b...

NEC cycle show

Anybody going? I went yesterday and came away declaring it a waste of money and that I'd never go again, but I've done that each of the three previous years :? It was cheaper this year with my concessionary entry saving of £2 and free travel. I bought a mini bottle of Green Oil for £2.39 and felt qu...

Re: Specs Wearers. A Q please?

Now that its getting darker, I've switched to wearing my regular specs for riding which isnt working out all that great. Basically I end up looking half over and half through the glasses resulting in spending the whole ride with my head held too high and soon enough, neck ache. What do other specs ...

Re: Stove content ... I won't blame you if you don't look.

I've always found with meths that if I store the fuel or used, empty stove anywhere near the cook pot, or food, I can taste the meths.
I can't be the only one, I hope :)
I've tried many different meths stoves but keep going back to hexy style fuels.

Re: A new camera

Just something to bear in mind - the Sony NEX cameras aren't full frame 35mm sensors like you were used to with your old film SLR. They use an APS-C sensor which is about 40% smaller at about 22mm - the 4/3 are smaller again. Both formats are still considerably larger than the the sensors you would...

Re: A new camera

Thanks for the replies. They have caused me to reconsider and I am veering back towards staying with compact - light and easily accessible - but bringing it up to date. Those Canon s100 pictures are stunning and a gps tag would be helpful. I have plenty of pictures that I don't know where I was when...

Yes, only about 28Km across. I expect they have to pay a licence fee to OS but it makes a single map very expensive :o

A new camera

I am thinking of buying a new camera and need advice. I gave up 35mm SLR's when the first digital cameras came along because I was fed up with carting all the weight and paraphernalia about. I mainly use my camera as a diary and take pictures of anything that interests me; that seems to include a lo...

Re: Maps for Bear Bones and splash maps

I was intrigued by the map and phoned the firm. A new map costs £100 to set up and then another 20 for the map itself. The scale is 1:40,000 and the map is 72cm square. If anybody would like to work that out in square kilometres coverage I'd be happy to know the answer. My head hurts too much to thi...
