Re: Gore-tex Running Shoe Recommendations
Neoprene socks are also good in my experience. More comfortable to run in than sealskinz, but provide a fair bit of warmth. As Bob says, the worst conditions are just above freezing when wet. I found they helped in those conditions.

Re: Gore-tex Running Shoe Recommendations
La Sportiva Lycan for me. Not proper fell shoes, but fine for running on the moors in the winter if you’re not racing. As others have already said, your feet still get wet, but at least it takes a bit longer to happen!

Re: Family bikepacking tent advice needed
I’ve used a 4 person mid when doing this with the family and it worked really well touring with the kids. I’ve not used the alpkit mid, but as long as it is big enough for 4 I would assume no issues. I notice that ours can get a bit drafty as it has an all net inner-fine in the summer and in shelter...

Hi James, the harness is black in colour. I think it is the bigger one, but not 100% sure. I have another one and that is slightly shorter, so basing it on that! Happy to measure it compared to yours if that helps?

Re: Suggest some winter mtb boots?
Irate vaudemoab stx flat boots. Not a great tread for hike a bike, but good pedal grip and seem to last well. They do a winter version, which is insulated and therefore warmer, but i find the normal ones fine for 95% of winter. Bikeinn usually have them on offer

Re: Lightweight winter gloves
Like bearlegged, I’ve tried a lot of gloves! Didn’t rate the dissent gloves personally. Was attracted to their loghtweight and packability, but didn’t find the waterproof ones any better than a gore infinium glove at keepimg my hands dry! I also rate the velcio alpha gloves for all but the coldest w...

Re: Lightweight winter gloves
I tend to get quite cold hands, so use the standard for autumn/spring and the max for colder days. I’d rather have slightly warm hands than cold ones!

Re: Lightweight winter gloves
Castelli gote infinium gloves (perfetto?) come in a range of weights and have some padding on the palm. I quite like them and they seem to be lasting quite well. I have the thicker pair and have just bought a thinner pair for the temperatures you describe

Re: For 2025 on route to Bear Bones Towers
I’ve stayed at the Aleppo and it was good. Reasonably priced and good food and drink. Have also ised Oswestry travelodge (as mentioned by Bob above). Was also fine, but further away than the Aleppo and no real food options nearby.

As above, hood under helmet is a good
Solution if it is hammering down and you want to use a joystick or diablo. Having used both , I nearly always go for the joystick as, in comparison, the diablo feels a bit heavy on a helmet.

Re: WTD: big frame
Hi, I have an old XL Salsa el mariachi frame that is curre tly taking up space in the loft. It may have the starts of a crack in the chainstay-I can photograph this if you are potentially interested. I’d let it go very cheaply, but it may need welding and it is in Sheffield. Not worth posting as thi...
