Nearly a SPOT Tracker Alternative
Just about to fly out to Spain for a weeks cycle touring (not bikepacking this time). Was going to bring my SPOT but thought it was a bit of overkill. While setting up my Spotwalla page I come across this. http://bubblergps.com I've downloaded the android app. And going to try it out when I'm away. ...

Just having a play around with this now so thanks for the heads up. Looks good so far and that's comparing it directly with Viewranger which I have used for years.
Will be very handy to have especially for anyone else doing the HT550.

Re: Peak District ITT. developing one
I've got a 300km route plotted out on GPS for the Dark Peak. I put it together when I was bored and recovering from my knee op back in the spring. I never got to ride it this summer as I simply wasn't fit enough. However I'm planning on riding it during the Easter holidays as part of my prep for the...

I've got both a normal smooth one which is best if you've never used one before.

Once you get hooked on self inflicting pain then a rumble roller is the way to go.

Re: Training for endurance riding/racing eg HT/TD
Ride your bike. Have fun. Mix it up. Remember that no matter what type of training you do your body soon adapts to it. So changing your focus every 6 to 8 weeks is beneficial. For years I've defied convention and do very little BASE in the winter and gradually build up my endurance rides through the...

Re: Highland Trail Race - Good Luck
What gear were you running on your singlespeed Ian? And if you did it again would you use the same ratio or would you be tempted to have a full compliment of gears. Those calorie totals on your Strava look way out but then again I'm 6ft 5 I'd have to stalk some deer and have a BBQ to keep me going. ...

Re: Highland Trail Race - Good Luck
Well done to everyone who finishes this event. I'm looking forward to touring it at a leisurely pace in the summer before hopefully lining up for the race next year. Looks like Ian and Alan put all their years of racing Polaris events to good use.... The question is can anyone beat Aidan? Exciting t...

Re: ***Polaris/OMM Buxton Event Cancelled***
They put a load of controls on footpaths and once they realised said they had land access issues which has since turned into BS about late lambing and birds nesting. When asked about the maps and clarity regarding which tracks were legal or not it became very clear they generally did not have a clue...

Re: Tent shopping advice.
My Alpkit Delta has only been up in the garden (no photos). I mainly got it as a cheap option for a two man tent when doing the Polaris but I really like it's pack size and would consider using it on longer bikepacking trips with my wife (we normally use my Big Agnes Seedhouse SL3 as we're both tall...

Cheap as chips. Packs small, light. Inside is a bit baggy but that's why they are selling them cheap. Might be worth a look.

Some general advice regarding adjusting cycling positions for different injuries. http://www.cptips.com/knee.htm Still think foam roller will work though. Re: Severe knee pain?
Most likely to be tight IT bands. Can come on very suddenly and very painful. Generally quite easy but painful to self treat with a foam roller. Should be able to get back on the bike within a week. It's likely that your saddle is too low and you've over-developed strengthed the lateral aspect of yo...

Re: Anyone had an ACL Knee Reconstruction?
Well- I had an unexpected call from my consultant yesterday evening, most of which was him apologising profusely.
He double checked my MRI and said that he had in fact mis-interpreted my MRI scan and that my ACL is completely intact. No operation required, yipee! :D
Hopefully be back biking soon.

Thanks Gairy, I'm still at the stage where I'm trying to get my head around it. I've been doing my physio religiously as everything I've read suggests it makes a big difference. Your advice suggests the same :) Still gutted though did it playing football no one near me at the time either! I I'm conf...

Anyone had an ACL Knee Reconstruction?
Hi, I'm booked in to have knee reconstruction surgery on the 10th April :| I was just wondering if anyone else has been through this? I have 2 months of pre-operation physio to do that apparently greatly increases the chance of a successful outcome. So I've gone from planning a bikepacking trip to I...

Boilerwerks vs mkettle. And an interesting aside.
After Ian B's write up of the mKettle I was quite interested in getting one. But after a bit of research I found the original american version. More expensive especially when you factor in postage/likely custom charges - but half the weight (nearly). Can cook on the top of it too - looks like it wou...

A day and night of first time experiences all added up to nearly twenty hours of riding that I will never forget. A moment in time from my ride below. The Carnau The halo of light now seemed to be dancing on the horizon. It was enchanting and provided an overwhelming feeling of hope. Then the light ...
